Cut long cigar in half?
This may be a dumb question, but I don't know the answer...
Would it work out to cut a long cigar in half to make two short cigars? Say, to turn a lonsdale into two petite coronas? --emelbee |

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
I would be a little worried about the wrapper unraveling on the foot half, but if it stays together it should be just fine.

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
I was having draw problems with Maria Mancini Clemenceaus (7.5 x 50). I got tired of that and tried to cut a few.
It works OK, better than 1 long stick with a draw problem. The H2000 wrapper on the MMs is fragile and yes I did have the wrapper unravel. I think it would be more manageable on a cigar that had a less fragile wrapper. On the small cigar left from the foot I wonder which end to light. I don't know if it matters, but I decided to light the portion that I cut and what was once the foot of the big cigar became the head of the new PC. Not optimal based on the wrapper of this cigar. It worked, however and improved the draw dramatically. BillyBarue |

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
you might want to get some cigar balm, it is like glue for the wrapper. just in case the wrapper does start to unravel

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
If the alternative is throwing them out because of plugs or some other defect, then why not. Otherwise, I wouldn't try it.

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
I wouldnt cut a long cigar in half just to smoke it in two separate occasions - most premium sticks are rolled with the tips of the tobacco leaves at the foot of the smoke and the base of the leaves toward the cap - this allows for more milder flavors when you first fire up. Worst case, you will end up with one milder smoke and one stronger smoke.
Of course, if there is a plug, split, or draw issue, chop away! A saved stogie, even if partially dismembered, is better than none at all. |

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
This is fine to do and can mean that you dont end up wasting a good long cigar when youve only got time to smoke a small stogie. crushing the end of the cut cigar with your teeth should solve any unravelling issues.

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
I wouldn't do it. Cigars are blended and rolled to be smoked as they have been rolled by the torcedor. Maybe with a plugged cigar.

Re: Cut long cigar in half?
Iactually did this this week with a LVH Cedar Chateu #1 as I couldn't take the time to smoke the whole thing and it was still the smallest I had. I have a box of them so I wasn't too worried about trying it with one, and it turned out just fine, had the foot half right then after lunch and the other end after soccer practice that everning, in the dark, just me and the mosquitos.
Both halves were tastey, only mild difference from the regular version. Both were a bit harsher and I'm pretty sure the middle of the stick was much looser
