Thanks, that's very generous, good panetelas are hard to come by. I was being a little facetious though. I was mostly commenting on the fact that it seems manufacturers are focusing heavily on these large rg cigars. It's frustrating when a new blend comes out and they're all 50+. The classic 5.5 x 42 which used to be the most popular size, is fast becoming a thing of the past. Got to go with the times, I guess.

So FDC:
I really liked your maduro perfecto. I could kick myself for not trying them sooner; an entire summer passed with me looking past them on the shelf at my local B&M store. I finally tried one 2 weeks ago and found them to be delicious! You are onto something really good in their own right. The one I smoked reminded me of the Edge Maduro but was damned good in its own right. To me that is a sign of a good cigar; my humidor has room for them too I wish you good fortune in your business.

Re: Two new RP Edge Competitors

Scotty:
I just smoked one of the Omar ortez 10 minutes ago. I bought it from my B&M here. They must have just gotten them in over the past 2 weeks. I didnt recall your post but had a feeling about em cuz they were in a box right next to the Camugueys; I figured I wouldn't make the same mistake about them as I did with the camis So I bought one and asked about them. I was told they are made by Altadis and are their version of the RP edge. They are as you described them. They are fullbodied and very strong ; they have a similar taste profile as the Edge but not as flavorful nor as complex. But they do have spice! And a lot of it. They are kind of complex in the final third and the spice is reduced a bit (I could tell because it was less harsh as I exhaled throiugh my nose). All in all not bad, and I will smoke em again for their fullness. I paid about $4.25 for the one I bought so, they are about .50 cents less than the cheapest edge at my B&M. So, for an inexpensive smoke for when I'm in the mood for a strong smoke, I'll get these. The Edge still rules though IMO because, they have a lot more complexity and more flavor overall.

Re: Two new RP Edge Competitors

This is the write up on them over at Cigars International; they have them there in boxes of 60 for about $174.00:

>>Omar Ortez Originals are Nicaraguan-made cigars named after a master roller from the NATSA Fatory. This Nicaraguan puro maintains perfect balance in flavor and strength, and let me tell you, it offers plenty of both. Dressed in a toothy and dark Nicaraguan wrapper, Omar Ortez Originals combine a bold mixture of aged Nicaraguan long-leaf tobaccos, bound by a hearty Nicaraguan leaf. The result is a robust smoke that’s rich in character and deep on long-lasting, satisfying flavors.

Omar Ortez Originals come packaged in old world fashion: band-free, inside simple Spanish cedar cabinets of 60. The lid of each cabinet lifts to grab a few smokes or flip the front facing down for a sneak peek at the feet of these dark, ligero-laced handmades. <<

When I smoked the one, I could taste the ligero, that was unmistakeable. As you can tell by the description though, they do not have the same ingredients as the Edge. Perhaps this is why they "are missing something".

I am not impressed with the Omar Ortez's. Very bland.

Bland?! Well to each his own. For me, they may be a bit one dimensional but, not bland at all.

RT: It took me damn near a year to smoke one of em, and I did only based on a review by Volfan. I tried one and liked it, I bought 2 more and have em resting. They are good smokes, but unattractive on the shelf at my B&M.
