Quote:
His original name was Richard Dickhole, but after a few years he changed it to Joe Dickman. Here's the explanation from JR's site - No conversation about cigar cutting would be truly complete without mentioning the "Dick Cut." Now stop laughing and let me explain... It is named in honor of its biggest proponent, Joe Dickman, the soon to be retired Fuente-Newman west coast sales rep. This is a straight cut, but done at 45-degree angle. This cut opens a tremendous surface area and directs the smoke down onto the palate - the idea being that it will maximize the cigar's flavor. |

Re: Question about smoking torpedos
I've been using this for a while now ever since I attended a rolling event at the local B&M. Just be careful not to cut too much. I did and felt like I was smoking a clarinet. The angle does work!

Re: Question about smoking torpedos
Wow, never heard of the dickman cut before.
I just feel strange cutting a torpedo to the point that it is more like a robusto or a toro. Recently, I haven't been buying many torpedos because of this and am trying to smoke the ones I have left from trades and past purchases. There is a local cigar shop on my way to school that hand rolls cigars and he says to use a v-cutter for smoking torpedos. I would assume this increases the surface area as well while leaving the more concentrated tip. I just don't want to buy another cutter I am not going to use vary often, I should probably just get a two dollar one to try out. I guess I was wondering if anyone buys torpedos just to smoke them like toros. I smoked a padron maduro 6000 (torpedo) yesterday and basically cut of the torpedo portion almost completely off. It was my first regular series padron and it was pretty damn good. I have a couple of 2000's in my humidor and will have to see if they taste the same. If they don't I might be forced to buy the 6000's and cut them into the 2000's. I was also wondering this because I smoked a PSP2 that was gifted to me and it had a really nice flavor, however, I think it would have been even better if I had cut off more of the tip off (I was trying to smoke it the way it was intended). Thanks for the advice
