Re: new oliva blends?

If your talking new blends such as the Oliva Serie O I sampled my 1st one from a 5 pack I recently purchased. It was a Perfecto. When clipping it I noticed the wrapper had started to unravel a tad, not split open just a bit loose so I fired it up and got busy. Maybe my palate is so corrupted these days but I could not detect much taste...well taste that would interest me much. A little spice, woody, whatever. As I moved on into the barrel of the stick or meaty part I was hoping for some improvement but their was little except at that point the burn became very uneven. All in all I was very disappointed. The old line, such as the Oliva Bold was a heck of a nice cigar and blend. Did manage to pick up a box as a close out and have been looking for more at a decent price. Guess I will just have to ration what I have in the cooler and savor one from time to time. I have been a big fan of Oliva, sometimes change just sucks!!

Re: new oliva blends?

I just tried the Series S Torpedo recently and thought it was an excellent cigar. I give it a grade of an A-. The construction and flavors are great. Pick some of them us ASAP.

Re: new oliva blends?

Does anyone know what the equivelant to the old O Bold line is? I loved these guys but haven't been able to find much info on the new blends.

Re: new oliva blends?

i remember reading the conversions from old to new somewhere. i can't seem to find it but i am pretty sure it goes like this:
"o" line changed to series O -- original and maduro
"O" bold changed to series S
the GRAND line is now series "G"
don't know if or what blends changed. check the link below, it has at least something to look at and consider.
topher.

Re: new oliva blends?

Had the Oliva O Robusto and it's was OK at best. Unraveled a bit after cutting and taste was strong leathery and not creamy. Not much changed throughout. It was slightly better in the 2nd half, but overall disappointed with them. I still have 4 more so will age a bit and see what happens. If you like strong leathery and woodsy (reminded me of a fireplace) this is for you (and not too creamy).

Re: new oliva blends?

I don't have any experience with Oliva blends, but I just picked up my first. It is a Series G "Special G", which is the figurado. I have heard very good things, and am interested in firing it up. It sounds like the brand is going through quite a shift. I wonder if all of the was naming only, or if there were any changes from the "old" blends.

Re: new oliva blends?

I have a box each of the Oliva O (new packaging) natural & maduro robusto. They are pretty recently off the truck, but I've been pleased so far. My impression is that it is the same cigar as before.

Re: new oliva blends?

I have had the Oliva g Maduro and enoyed it very much. I have also had the Oliva O and enjoyed that one as well, but not as much as the g. I have a few Oliva O Maduros which I am looking forward to trying. One thing about the Olivas you get a good stick at a reasonable price.
