Re: Cigars cracking

I'm in Florida, and the big problem here is not keeping the humidity up, but the opposite. After "successfully" keeping the RH at 75%, my cigars started to crack after a few days. Then I left my humidor wide open for a couple of days, which brought it down to 69-70% and they're a little better. Although still not where I'd like to see them, it's making me feel better. I'm almost thinking about removing my humidifier due to the natural humidity already in the air. What do you guys think about that?

Re: Cigars cracking

I wouldn't remove for good unless you get some beads and you'll be fine

Get the beads they are one of few humidifiers that act as a dehumidifier also. I have the same problems here in California at times. They work like a charm. My humidor was @ 78% and within a few days of putting my 65% beads in and taking out the foam humidor I was very close to the 65%.

Hope that helps
Dominic

Re: Cigars cracking

these are sounding like the same issues that i'm having, except my cigars haven't started splitting, yet. i've put in an order for beads and hope that addresses all my woes.

my RH was sitting at 75% pretty consistently, unless I cracked it open. Once cracked open, it'd only come down to about 70-72% and i also live in california...bout 8 miles from the ocean.

Re: Cigars cracking

I actually have found that splitting is caused when a cigar it subjected to a rapid increase in RH.

I have my aging stock at 72% with no issues. I also make sure they have lots of airflow etc. Now they are by no means smokeable at that RH but I have found them to age well up in those regions.

All the cigars I plan on smoking in the next week I let drop down to 68% in a rotation humidor.....

Good luck and bring everything down slowly, no sense in rushing.......
