damp stogies
Worried newbie here. Basically here is the situation. So I have a digital hygro that I salt tested a month ago (The radioshack thermo-hygro sensor). Was -3% so keeping that in mind the hygro has been reading anywhere from 63% to 67% over the course of the last month. Anyhow the last 4 days it was at 69% (so really 72%). I had remembered reading 72 for a short period is okay so I wasn't worried. So I pulled out a padron 2000m to smoke and to my horror it was extremely moist and spongy. I went on to check all my other smokes (roughly 100 cigars) and almost all of them were soft and spongy. I smoked the cigar to see if it had any effect and the flavor seemed to be okay a little harsher then usual but nothing horrible but I had massive burn problems and the draw was very very very tight. So basically are my cigars ruined? Is there anything I can do to save them? They almost all feel moist still even though I have dry boxed them for a day. Most of it is pretty replaceable but I have a couple Anejo's that I do not want to lose. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys. Oh also I salt tested the hygro again and it came out -4% so I guess the smokes were prolly at 73% RH for the last few days. Also, the temp if it matters has been about 69-71 the last 4 or 5 days. Thanks again guys.

Re: damp stogies
i would get ur smokes into a tuperdor with some beads and then get the hummi stabalized. once that is done then the sticks can be put back in the hummi and within a few weeks all would be good i would think
but that is just my opinion and what do i know???

Re: damp stogies
You can save your cigars, leave your humi open for a little while till the RH goes down, you can remove your humidification device for now.
My humi has no humidification device, it stays at a constant 67%. |

Re: damp stogies
72 realy isn't that high. 65/65 is perfect. But at 72, you realy shouldn't have huge problems.
Are you sure your hydro is accurate ? I would ake out your device until the humidity drops a bit. I would also not add any distilled water till it comes down a bit.Keep an eye on the humidity and when it drops a bit put it back in. For now just take whatever cigar you want to smoke out of the humi an hour early and you will be fine.

Re: damp stogies
thanks for the advice guys. I took out the humidification device and the stogies seem to be doing better. I salt tested the hygro again and it showed -4% so the readings must have been in the 72-73% range. I still have no idea why they got so wet but they seem to be more stable right now and the readings are at about 69-70%. I guess I better put in an order of beads. Thanks again.
