Re: Good Cigar Stores in Toronto, Ontario

I read through this thread and i'm pretty sure I didn't see anyone saying anything about Frank Correnti Cigars on King St West. It's a cigar factory that's been around for a long time. They import tobacco from Cuba and roll it themselves in their factory which you can find if you walk to the end of the alley beside the Scholastic building at King St. West and Portland. I popped in there a couple of weeks ago and picked up a couple of singles and really enjoyed them. The staff were really nice to boot. Their cigars are around $10 - $15. Worth checking out.

Angry Re: Good Cigar Stores in Toronto, Ontario

Anyone know what's up lately with Cheers Smoke Shop?

I went there a few weeks ago and the shop was closed.

So I walked by there again just this afternoon to pickup a few singles and the shop was still closed!

The only thing that comes to mind is he is changing his humidor so people can't see the cigars because of the new stupid law.

Or is he going under?

Anyone heard rumors?

I had not heard about anything going on there. The new law should not impact cigar shops per se. I was told that "tobacconists" were expempt.

I was downtown a couple of weekends ago and took a stroll on Yonge. I went into a place called CafeTabac. It is on the west side on Yonge about 3 blocks north of College. They have a website http://www.cafetabac.com/ and not a bad walk-in in the back. They sell a lot of head-shop stuff in the front though. The guy working there was not too knowledgeable, he admitted that he did not smoke them. Had a selection of Cubans and non-Cubans. I picked up a couple of their house-brands to check them out. Have not had yet but they had both naturals and maduros.

Re: Good Cigar Stores in Toronto, Ontario

Everything here in Niagara is closing up due to the new law , only a true tobacconist can display cigars but they all have high priced Cubans only , when I asked why only Cubans the owner of Copa Habana told me " you think these cigars are here for you , they are here for the American tourists that have to have their Cubans"
I am also looking for a good cigar store in this area , might have to run up to Oakville and see then , Stupid Law !

Hemingways by Pearson airport is still alive and well. Cathy knows her stuff and they've got a decent selection.

I've been there a couple of times. I've talked to the owner before and he seemed pretty cool.

I've never checked out Hemmingways before. Do they have a website? I just tried google and could not find one. I will try calling them tomorrow morning.

I'm going away this weekend with a few friends to the cottage and I plan to bring up a few cigars but I'm really hoping to save some dough, if possible.

As long as it's not LCDH. Every time I buy a cigar there it tastes bland, or it has burn issues. I've even bought a six year old La Gloria Cubana and the cigar fell apart after I lit it. Plus the walk in humidor is freezing cold.

Anyway, my usual spot I go to is Thomas Hinds, but their prices for Bolivar Royal Corona's are a bit high and I also want a Bolivar PC, but I know they don't got them in stock.

These are the cigars I'm looking to get:

Bolivar Petit Corona
Bolivar Royal Corona
Trinidad Reyes or Coloniales

If I can't find a Bolivar PC, then a Cohiba Siglo III. Thomas hinds sells them for $30.00 a piece.

I got the day off tomorrow and it's my only time to pick them up due to work Thursday and I leave Friday morning.

If anyone knows a good place that might have what I'm looking for in Toronto that has good prices and a good walk-in humidor, i.e. they take care of it, please reply or PM me.

Sorry for such a long post and thanks for listening.

No website. They are on Carlingview just south of Dixon. Its not 'great' but it is decent. I guess the same can be said about most places. Their number is (416) 798-2427.

Did they used to operate under the name "Cigars For You"? They used to have two locations. The one of Steeles West (between Bathurst and Yonge) and one on Carlingview near Arizona B Bar.

Yup, that's her. She sold her lounge store and kept the one by Arizona's. Cathy owns the place and is generally the one there most of the time, if not its her husband. Cathy has recommended some cigars I wouldn't have otherwise tried and I have never been let down.

Actually Cigar Lover 101 they closed to go on vacation. I happened to visit on the day they were closing and he told me i'd better buy what I wanted now since they were going on vacation for a month.

I found them ironically through this very thread and you are dead on about all of the shops you reviewed - especially this one. I really didn't like his attitude, low prices or not, so I'm going to take my business elsewhere.

That makes sense. My wife worked with someone that used to work part-time at the Steeles Ave location. Not sure if he still does. I was at the airport store once a long time ago. I should stop in again.
