Re: Which La Vieja Habana?
So far I've had the Corojo and the Connecticut.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of any Corojo I've had so far... it just doesn't fit in my preferred flavor profile. However, I will say that if you are a Corojo fan, this would probably suit you just fine. I didn't have any specific complaints about it other than the particular stick I got didn't have a very good draw on it. (I gave it a 6.5/10, an excellent value) I've had two of the Connecticuts this week, and have been impressed by both. Definitely not an "after dinner" type of smoke, as they won't hold up to that level of flavor, but they are a very good afternoon or early evening smoke. (I gave these around a 7/10, will be buying a box) Haven't had the Maduro yet, but judging on the other two, I'm going to be enjoying this one immensely. I tend to like both Conns and Maddies, so I'm thinking this one will suit me just fine. Still keeping my eyes open for the Cameroon wrappers, but haven't seen one at a B&M yet. According to two of my local shops, they've been having a lot of trouble getting their orders on all of the LVH wrappers, as they sell out extremely quickly, and many of the online retailers can't keep them in stock. And for $40/box, I'm not the least bit surprised. |

Re: Which La Vieja Habana?
They're so inexpensive you should get a couple of each and enjoy the testing to see which you like best. I really like the original LVH which is the Corojo wrapper, but haven't tried any of the new release stuff yet.

Re: Which La Vieja Habana?
I've only tried the maduro so far and I like it. Want to try the Connecticut wrapper next but haven't found a place around that sells them. >.<

Re: Which La Vieja Habana?
I tried this brand a long time ago, maybe a good time to revisit.

Re: Which La Vieja Habana?
I've always enjoyed the corojos. Great value cigar The connecticuts are good too, but pretty mild. The cameroons were disappointing. They had a bitter flavor and the construction wasn't nearly as solid as the others. i don't care for maduros in general so probably won't get around to these. cheers

Re: Which La Vieja Habana?
I have smoked a number of the previous generation La Vieja Habana Cedar Chateau No 1s, which I believe are a Corojo wrapper. I like them just OK. I like them better when I think about how little they cost me (less than $1).
I have recently had three of the newer generation - one each of the Cameroon, Corojo, and Maduro wrappers, all in the corona size. I didn't get any of the Connecticut wrapper ones, as I generally don't like Connecticut wrappers. The new Corojo tastes a lot like the previous generation - OK, but not great. Like MTUCache above, my Corojo one was tight, although I don't know why the type of wrapper would affect this. Like mtg972 above, I found the Cameroon one to be bitter. I liked it less than the Corojo. I don't generally consider myself to be a big Maduro fan, but the new LVH Maduro cigar I had was great! I much preferred it to the Corojo and the Cameroon. The Maduro wrapper had some big veins and was pretty rustic looking, but I don't care much about that. It had nice spicy and sweet flavors and was missing an off flavor in the Corojo that I don't care for. I've got one more of each of these to try, so I'll see if anything is different next time. I'll probably be buying more of the Maduros, though.

Re: Which La Vieja Habana?
The LVH mixed fillers have gone up in price significantly in the past year. I like all of the new wrapper choices however they are much less of a deal at their current price then when they were low twenty something a box.
The LVH: Early Years series at Cigars International are long filler cigars in the $1.50 - $2.50 a stick price range; and they frequently go for less on CBid. For the extra little money they are much better cigars for the money IMO. ![]() |
