Question H. Upmann Corona or Cohiba Siglo III

Yesterday was my birthday. (Happy Birthday, I know you'll say it) and I'm having a party tomorrow. As usual I always pick up a birthday cigar for myself.

I torn between a H. Upmann Corona or a Cohiba Siglo III.

Personally I like ones with a medium to somewhat strong taste.

Just so you know my actual tastes, my top three fave's are:

Cohiba Esplendido, Romeo & Julieta Churchill Tubo, and H. Upmann No. 2

With that being said, which of the two would you suggest? I most likely will be having it after a very light meal, and either with a shot of Fireball, or maybe a Heineken. It's not cognac, but it's what I like. I might just skip the drinks until after having the cigar.

I'm kinda leaning towards the Cohiba Siglo III but I'm worried that it might be too strong for my tastes as I hated the Cohiba Siglo IV.

Any suggestions? I'm picking it up tomorrow so the sooner the suggestions the better.

Thanks.

I've heard good things about the Esplendido so that might be the way to go. Some general parameters, since it's your special day, is that you want to go with a smoke that will provide you with say 1.5 hours+ of joy. Also, you want to get something you typically don't have. So don't hold back and do post what you end up having! As an aside, the Lancero size might also be a good bet for you

Well, I know a friend of mine treated himself to a Monte A for his 40th birthday...just as another idea.

Re: H. Upmann Corona or Cohiba Siglo III

If you like the Corona type vitola, I would go with the Upmann (if I had to decide between the Cohiba and the Upmann).......especially since you liked the Upmann #2 and hated the other Siglo. I still think the Siglo's are wonderful cigars. I would give them another chance, but not for your birthday smoke. On special occasions, I always go with what I know. The Siglo's are all similar IMHO and defintiely a little stronger than the earthy Upmann's.

In that size/range, my favorites are the Bolivar Royal Corona (mild to medium and extremely flavorful IMHO) and the Monte #4 (a little smaller and a little stronger).

Overall, my favorite Cubans, based on my limited experience, are the 98 Lusitania, 98 Punch Churchill and 03 Upmann Mag 46.

So many cigars....so little time.

Happy Birthday

Thnaks for your input.

Might also go with a H. Upmann Magnum as I hear they're very good.

Well, I'm off to go pick out my smoke. Wish me luck.

So I'm back from the cigar shop. Decided to go with the H. Upmann Corona.

Will post my opinion on this thread sometime tomorrow.

Thanks again to everyone who posted their opinions.

Re: H. Upmann Corona or Cohiba Siglo III

I have some Upman coronas that have some age on them, and it is one of my top two cigars. I almost get a green tea flavor from them. Totaly change at about half way

Cool Re: H. Upmann Corona or Cohiba Siglo III

I'm so glad I went with the H. Upmann Corona.

I wish I could of known the box date. The guy at the store that sold em said he doesn't remember as he puts new ones in old boxes. Kinda stupid IMHO but what can you do? Was almost not going to buy it there but I took a chance, and it worked out anyway.

It's now one of my top fave's. Seems almost every Upmann I've had I've really enjoyed, with the exception of the H. Upmann Petit Corona, found that one a bit boring.

I suggest to anyone who hasn't tried this one, to pick one up. They're a great smoke and they aren't too expensive either.
