Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
We've all seen the RP seconds claiming to be real RP Vintage ciagrs with some slight imperfections. But my question is - If these are truly rejects due to the reasons that are mentioned by Rocky Patel himself and in the writings on the Cigar International site, then why don’t they have ANY resemblance at all of the original Vintage line?
In other words, if these are simple blemish or off-color marks that are making them Seconds then they should have the exact same shape as the Vintage 1990 and 1992. These are nothing at all in shape like the aforementioned. This would lead me to believe that they are not actually seconds per se but were actually made my RP on purpose. Any thoughts or insight on this? And also, has anyone ever tried them? |

Re: Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
i've won several lots of seconds of both the '90 and '92 series at c-bid. so far all have smoked the same as the 'firsts' but at a fraction of the price.

Re: Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
I personally like the '90 over the '92. My father-in-law is just the opposite. can you notice any difference in taste or construction of these ciagrs versus the real Vintage line?

Re: Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
of the twenty or so seconds i have smoked so far, the only difference has been some very slight variations of color in the wrapper. the shape (box press) is the same, and they are shipped without a band. no peeling, splitting, draw problems, have been found at all so far. the flavor has been identical.

Re: Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
The robustos are nearly indentical in appearance and taste. The toros are square boxed pressed, but the 92 seconds I bought didn't appear to be boxed pressed. It was the same blend as far as I could tell and was great.

Re: Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
I've thought this too and wondered the same based on the RG of the 92 toro. It has a larger RG than the regular line and some have accounted this to the fact that box pressing changes the RG. That makes since, but if that's the case then why is the toro the only size that has a different RG than the regular line?

Re: Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
I smoke my fair share of Rocky Patel seconds. I normally always keep the Sun Grown seconds on hand.
Seconds can be defined in several ways - wrapper blemishes, off color - and, apprentice rollers. I think this is where the RG size difference may come in to play. Rocky Patel (seconds) is one of the few brands that I would safely say will always match the firsts in flavor and construction. Ron |

Re: Rocky Patel Seconds - Truly Mistakes ?
My buddy bought some a while back and hasn't had any problems. He thinks they are very tasty. He got 5 Chuchills off the Devil Site. I don't know how much he paid.
