Dried out Cigars
While in Panama last summer (it was during the time when they stopped alowing fluids on planes) I picked up some VEGAS ROBAINA: UNICOS. With all the hustle and bustle with customs, my oldest son accidently took them to Utah with him, well I live in California.
Just last week he finally decided to send them back to me. Well as you all have guessed they are all dried out, my question is can these be salvaged in any way or should I just toss them out? ![]() |

Re: Dried out Cigars
It's worth a try, but it takes some time... basically you want to bring them back up to 70% slowly. Not sure how to raise the ambient RH without a controllable active device....
but whatever the ambient RH is now, try and bring it up 5% at a time letting the cigars rest for a few weeks at each RH stop. |

Re: Dried out Cigars
Like I have said before - you will end up with nothing but a big ole cigarette. Sorry.
When a cigar dries out - especially one from last summer now - you loose the oils in the leaf which make a cigar what it is. So sure, you can add humidity back into the cigar but that is all you can do. Best bet is to just toss them or take them apart to see how they are made. Sorry guy - Ron |

Re: Dried out Cigars
Might not be worth it, but if I had room in my humi, I'd give it a try. I'd put them in and forget about them for at least a year. You really don't have anything to lose and you never know. The worst case scenario is you find out they can't be saved and you throw them away anyway. Might be worth a try.

That bad eh? That is an unfortunate lesson if they can't be saved.

Re: Dried out Cigars
You have nothing to lose at this point, try the revival method, let them rest a long time, and then try one - you can always throw them away in a year.
If the storage temp's weren't too high, you might luck out! ![]() |

Re: Dried out Cigars
Definately worth a try, but don't rush it. I've been surprised in the past at how resilient cigars can be.

Suprising there aren't more mailboxes near your son, that he could have sent them sooner.
