Clipping and Re Lighting?
My brother got me started on stoggies this past New Years (as I have said in the past) and he is a very casual smoker. He only smokes a couple of sticks a week at most and he will often Clip a lit cigar and then put it back in his humidor and re light it later in the week.
Is this a common practice? Are there pros and cons to this practice? I have to admitt that I have also practiced this on an occasion or two when I felt I had to rush so I just clipped my gar to save for a more relaxing time. Looking forward to the feedback on this one and I am fully aware that I could get blasted with both barrels however you never know until you ask.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
Here is what I have found.. When you smoke a cigar the tabaco starts to warm.. even get hot. That changes the chemical make up of the tobacco. Also when you smoke a cigar nicotine gasses build up which changes the taste.. When you put it out and then go back to it it seems these unwelcome flavors get worse..
If you decide you want to save some for later I would reccommend you purge the cigar before you put it out to remove the gases.. then clip the end.. feel free to add, or correct any of the info above.. |

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
Yeah i tried this and is no good. The stick doesnt smell good anymore, instead it smells like ashes so it might invade your humi with that smell. also as aahagel the gasses and the warming of the tobbacco change the taste and it might be very awfull (as the experiences i had
). I would only do this if the stogie i am smoking is just lit (less than an inch). otherwhise, maybe doing some purgin before cliping it.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
Clipping and relighting has never worked for me. I've always found the cigar to taste nasty the second time around.
I would strongly advise against putting a half smoked cigar back in the humi. It could leave a smell that will infuse your humidor and all of your smokes. If anything put them in a plastic baggie outside of your humidor.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
it ruined a travel humi that i had. the smoke smell invaded it and ruined another cigar that i put in it so. if you clip them i would recommend having a ziploc bag to put it in.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
I have clipped and relit. It is just not a good idea. They taste awful.... Buy smaller cigars. If your not going to have time to smoke a big guy then get a little guy and smoke that.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
I agree with what has been said so far, I had one lastnight I had to let go because we got a call at work and had to leave so I left half of it sitting. When we got back I could smell it sitting in the ashtray so I can imagine what it would do to a good humi. I think the best thing he could do is find something he can smoke all of in the time he has. Just my .02 hope it helps.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
I agree with everyone else. When I first started smoking, I would clip and relight. I just couldnt do that anymore. The taste of the cigar is never the same. Like it was already said, get some good small cigars to put in your humi. If the issue is too much Nicotine, tell them to take a break, walk around for a few minutes, and drink/eat something with a lot of sugar...like a sprite. This will help them get through that churchill.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
Thanks for all of the great feedback. I was pretty sure this was not a good thing.
I guess this helps add to that slippery slope I have found...LOL

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
Like others said, don't put it back in your humidor unless you seal it up. It will stink it up for a long time. Also, you have to consider if you really want to smoke a cigar that is past its best.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
Like others said, really a bad idea to put a half smoked stogie in your humidor. I've had to let smokes go out a few times due to "emergencies", and tried lighting them several hours later. The ISOM I tried this with was actually still smokable, the NC's were bitter and nasty.

Re: Clipping and Re Lighting?
I've clipped and put in a ziploc and stashed it in the liquor cabinet for the next day. When I went downstairs in the morning, the whole kitchen stunk. But my ziploc was the generic Walmart kind, and as we've seen in commercials, they aren't up to par w/ Ziploc brand. That being said, I don't think I'll even try clipping again, Ziploc brand or not - it's just not the same as a fresh one.
