This sounds like a great idea!

I don't really care if the bean selection is a democratic process or a decree from the evil coffee overlord.

So...

Not a contest; no winners or losers.
Same bean for all.
Same source.
Beans from Africa/Middle East; South America; Asia; Central America.
Uniform reporting.

Moo-San, Moo-San...Taster's Choice for you tonight. I was not complaining, just observing.

Now, as for your selection of personal agents...it's not MY fault that your agent does not know how to operate under deep cover without invoking and sullying the name of his backer.

T'was I your agent things would be different. And if not me, then at least it would make sense to employ someone who's family tree had more branches than a totem pole.

Sling blade, kaiser blade...they're both lawn mower blades to me. See? Simple, to the point, universally understood.

yet STILL covert

One bean for all, from the same lot for all, is a must. On the democracy and voting thing, I don't really care.

How about a four bean plan over a year - four continents? I say four continents -

1. Africa (and the middle east, bonus bean)
2. Asia
3. South America and the newly recognized continent of...
4. Central America

Works for me.

N'urf - for anyone with a short memory than I have, I note you knocked us dead with MayDay yirg quality at WAY NICER than a fair price, PLUS a cool mug, PLUS some ultra-fine stogies, PLUS timely shipping and good packaging. If you want to provide some of the beans (or a bean) for this project at retail, I would be real good with that. Mostly I don't like getting business and pleasure mixed up but:
  • we do it with cigars every day; and
  • you went above and beyond on the MayDay pass; and
  • it's a small measure of support for your continued presence and advice.
If you're in for all or part I think that's great; and I open the same offer to roaster-participant MrJerry who has been more than kind with free bean trials and advice to CS members over the past couple of years.

Absent interest from Uncle and Killer we move to the usual suspects - perhaps two orders from Sweet Marias (reliable), one from CCM (bean grower in the blind, but good quality) and one from a Green Bean Buyers Club (great prices, but quality from A to Z).

Advice?

Re: A Pack of Roasters Running Amok

So far all sounds workable to me, a plan shaping up nicely. But aside from Nova Surf and Mr Jerry being the beans source, I'd have to defer to those who actually have experience in this.

This seems good. One suggestion however, while for the most part there is no winners or losers; I'd say yes for three of the quarters. But the Africa, Middle East quarter should be our yearly Yirg roast. Sort of like our playoffs.

Fez?

Maybe Zach is doing the double-double-back agent thing, as evidenced by this candid shot of he and Mr Moo discussing roast techniques

I have, as promised, the SAME exact Yirg from last years pass in safe keeping.
