Re: A Pack of Roasters Running Amok

0. CONDITION BLACK. We are in CONDITION BLACK. This is discussion asking for your input to make sure we're agreed on Roasters Running Amok, 2007-2008. I say again: we are in CONDITION BLACK.

It isn't a pass or a competition - it's a thing where a bunch of registrants all roast five pounds of the same bean over a period of three months; this will be done four time (once per quarter).

No deadlines to meet, except roast five pounds within three months. Drink it, freeze it, give it away - whatever. But you have to drink SOME of it, because you HAVE to report back on your performance. I suggest two months of roasting time per quarter, approx., and a month of reporting time - all reports posted in the first week of the last month of the quarter. That gives everyone three weeks to review each others notes and, if anyone wishes, to do a little private passing for comparison. Passing strictly optional, EXCEPT for the MayDay (3rd Quarter) Yirg & Cigar Pass, which is a "Pass" and entails non-optional CIGARS. It'll also allow time for any advance discussion on the next quarters' bean.

Three months per bean leaves enough time to roast.... casual - at your pace - try a few different things and have time to allow each batch of coffee adequate rest periods before grinding and consuming.

The beans, to be selected, will all have stand-alone capability in a drip of press pot. This is not a blending event, altho you can if you want to, I suppose. You'll have plenty of time to test your notes against the reports of others

1. Central America. Whodat1 - winner of the First Annual 2006 Mayday Yirg Pass should select (after deep and private conversation with N'urf) the first quarter bean - roasting and reporting Oct 15 - Jan 14. Condition GREEN.

2. Asia. A Person to be named this week later should vote to select the second bean (in deep and private conversation with N'urf) for roasting and reporting Jan 15 - April 14. If the Person fails to appear all y'all can decide what it'll be. Condition PURPLE.

3. Africa and the Middle East. 2008 Third Annual Yirg Pass of Excellence - run by me. Third Quarter, unlike the rest of this thing, will be a pass under terms and conditions to be established after a while. Cigars will totally be involved - the Yirg is already selected and on hand - everyone who participates in the 2008 MayDay Yirg & CIgar Pass will be a winner, guaranteed. The other three quarters are for folks who register before October-something. The Third quarter Yirg Deal is open to folks who "May" want to come in for that bean only. April 15 - July 14. Condition RED.

4. South America. The Quarter of the Mother of All Beans. A week of the 4th of July vote by all registered participants for the best of South America, 2008. July 15 - Oct 14. Condition BROWN.

WE ARE CURRENTLY IN "CONDITION BLACK" - REGISTRATION AND OPEN DISCUSSION.

WHEN REGISTRATION IS CLOSED, IT IS CLOSED. NOBODY IS GONNA WORRY THE BALLS OFF NOVASURFS POOL TABLE MAKING CHANGES, LATE PATHETIC PLEAS TO PLAY, ETC. IF YOU WANT IN, SIGN UP NOW!!!

AND BY SIGNING UP, I MEAN ADD YOUR OWN NAME TO THE SIGN-UP LIST. I AM NOBODYS' OFFICE BIATCH.

Thank you for joining RRA/2007-2008, persons 2-13.

By joining RRA 2007-08 you are automatically enrolled in the much sought after and higholy prestigious 2008 3rd Annual MayDay Yirg & Cigar Pass. The Pass is much more of a commitment than the other three quarters. By default I am tagging the first 16 names with a MDY&CP tag. You may opt out of the pass if you wish. If you opt out of the Yirg pass, you will still be participating in the 3rd quarter of RRA (200.

The auto Yirg Pass entry is THE ticket to the ball. If you want out I suggest you sell your seat at the table for some high end cigars or a handful of Krueggarands.

And, if I may, a kindly thank you to person #1 for getting this rolling. I watched this past Yirg-pass and thought "what a bunch of mopes"....I mean I thought "hey, that's kinda cool".

Hopefully when May 08 comes along my roasting will be worthy of the endeavor

Man oh Man

I hate having to live in a sardine can. No room, not even enough to set the Mazzer up let alone roast.

I have to sit on my hands for this one and dream (of not sitting on my hands, i told it was a small fishy can).

Root, I would be more than happy to send you a sample from each of my roasts. May not be Moo quality, but I will get you the best.

Snif. Poor Root. Poor, poor Root. He has no room to roast in Wisconsin.

I have an idea! Pack up seven or eight boxes of pipes and jars full of tobacco and mail them all to K_rat and me. That should free up space enough for a Maz and a kettle. I'll work with you, James. I'll work with you. You can count of me.

Hey! PM the new address in case I have a spare bag of med-fine grind for the mokapot.

Thanks for the offers boys but couldn't ask ya'll to do that. Beside Dan, i don't like your idea.

Besides, i'm a smart man. I'll figure something out in time, say 9 months.

The Force is strong in him, Zackth_Vader. The Jedi Coffee Ninja Mind Control Tricks will not work as hoped. Let me try something else...

Yo! EvanS! We're really glad you're with us on the RRA 2007-08 thingie. We're all gonna help out our friend Root by you sending me a few of your best pipes and jars of fine tobacco. You serve your master well and he will reward you.
