Coffee.

I think I want to buy some Cuban coffee form the Web (not sure where yet so suggestions are welcomed). My question is I own a conical drip machine (makes a great cup of standard joe). I am looking for a new Press though also. Will the Machine make a good cup of cuban coffee or should I purchase a different kind (again; suggestions are encouraged).

Thanks

T

Re: Coffee.

There's Cuban coffee marketed under the Habanos branding. I had a bag of it like 5 years ago, pretty good, but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't go scouring the earth for a bag of it all. Reminds me Brazilian dark roast. I think Peets blows them away and spend money on that rather than some Cuban beans.

Re: Coffee.

Your drip machine can only make a good cup of any kind of coffee if its brewing between 195-205 degF and gets good extraction. The type (Cuban or otherwise) does not matter as much as how your machine brews.

You can pick up a presspot for under $15 at Target. Boil some water, let it cool for 30 seconds, pour it in and wait 4 minutes and plunge. It will probably make a better cup than your drip machine.

Re: Coffee.

Thanks I actually recently picked up a press pot and LOVE IT! I also just bought (got it in the mail last night) some African Assasin Killer Beans. Just to find out that my coffee grinder is broke.

Actually, it was called Cubita or something, I was wrong thinking it was Habanos brand. I see it being sold on different cigar sites. A girlfriend went to Cuba on a cultural exchange trip and brought me back a kilo of beans. The packaging was black, hence remembering it as Habanos brand. The coffee was nothing to go out of your way for.
