For Thanksgiving, we held our annual pilgrimage to our hometown in Mississippi to visit all of the in-laws still there. We found that there were 5 new Black & Decker Home Café Pod Coffee Maker owners. I had a hard time keeping my feelings to myself about this now-defunct B&D product. It seems they picked them up on SALE!
We were staying at one of my wife's sister's home and my brother-in-law raved about the convenience of the one-cup pod. Of course he had to make me a cup. Sigh. We had traveled all afternoon to get there and I was ready for a cup of coffee. Preparation was simple enough. Add water to the back. Open the Tupperware and place a WWII vintage pod into the machine. I noticed you could make 8 oz or 16 oz with the press of a button. He assured me that one pod for 16 oz was great! Burr / whiz and water ran through the coffee pod and into the stainless steel coffee mug. I lifted the mug to my lips and inhaled the fragrance. Sniff, sniff? Where's the coffee smell? Oh, there it is. It's just shy and delicate. Is that steam coming from the mug? No, just a smudge on my reading glasses. The first taste was....memorable. My first thought was, "I'm stuck here for three days with this? Lord I hope he has some Sanka!" If you've ever had a "breakfast blend" coffee then all you have to do is cut the strength by 2/3 and set the water temperature at about 130 degrees. And there you have it. Black & Decker Home Café Pod Coffee! I took that fine cup of Pod Coffee with me and ran out to "fill up" the car. A convince store nearby kept me supplied with adequate HOT Columbian coffee that was at least brewed within the hour. Compared to the POD coffee it was outstanding. The sad part of all this is that I had brought my own pre-ground fresh roast coffee. But all of these "modern" people no longer had a drip percolator. Next year the French press goes too!

Re: Mississippi Madness or why I like Sanka
hahaha
good stuff Syekick, but you highlight a worsening problem in general. When I go places I DO enjoy getting a cup of coffee. Now I am having a harder and harder time enjoying the coffee when out and about. Last weekend my wife and I get ready to to a friend's house and she stands in front of me with the Thermos and a set of puppy-eyes...silently imploring me to brew something for the trip
