Interesting question. If you are actually being an attentive roaster then you should be able to identify coffee beans, roasted or green by sight alone. Even if you have not roasted this particular bean in the past, just knowing what it is or the approximate region of where it comes from then you should be able to roast this coffee to near perfection the first time around.
