Mixing beans

Curious as to if this will have any ill effects;

I am half way through a bag of Nic Nifefight and found a local roaster who roasted me a bag of expresso beans that I am anxious to try.

I don't want to let the Nic sit around too long and am having a hard time not trying it, so for the sake of freshness, was thinking of mixing it in with the blend.

Is this a bad move?

I am still resisitng diving into the home roasting.

Re: Mixing beans

I think the obvious solution is to drink twice as much coffee.

But for real, I've mixed beans before but only if there wasn't enough of one kind for a full pot. That being said I wouldn't do it just to just because I'm worried about the beans being being ultra fresh, I would want to try this new roast on it's own and not mixed with another coffee. I doubt you'll have any serious problems if you let the K Beans go ignored for a short time while you drink some of the new beans.
Sorry Jerry.

Re: Mixing beans

Everyone has a Monkey Blend or Donkey Blend made from flung-together whatever. It might be good and it might be bad but, whatever it is, you'll probably never be able to make it exactly the same way again. I'm sure there are some people west of Memphis who even mix coffee beans and leftover string beans just for the fiber.

Whenever I have a little of this/that green beans I toss 'em togther, roast 'em all together and hope it doesn't taste great.

haha - wife and I just had a couple cups of the first "History of EvanS' Roasting Hobby" blend. Every roast I have done to date had about 2 Tbs of beans left over from the brews. So into the bin they went. And we also were hoping it didn't floor us, cuz there would be no duplicating this.

It was ok, like a confused Colombian Supremo. I'd certainly drink it again (assuming there was more) but i wouldn't ask for it

Now that's a great plan!

I don't think anyone has died from mixing beans, but I for one don't recommend it. If they were meant to be mixed they would already be mixed.

Try the espresso by itself, then with some of the Nicaraguan Knife Fight...only you can make the call as to it's flavor. My bet is that it's not going to be too damned good. Please let us know the results.

My bad. I wasn't thinking of a throw-together melenge for espresso. Drip, press, vacpot - sure, anything, whatever, and it might be fair, good or sometimes even great.

I agree with Mr'y that worthwhile espresso by accident is about as likely as a shovel full of identical snowflakes. I'll see your dancing chicken and raise you two.
