Since I'm not into the dark side, I'll post a few non-espresso shots.

Roasting day in my backyard & my shrine to coffee

You know what? The Mr. Coffee pumped out some decent shot for a while, but I think I wore that sucker out, after a while it really didn't cut it. I had it for 5 years but it only got serious use for about 6 months. If you play with the grind and tamp pressure enough, it can put out something drinkable. . .

Nice combo, when I upgrade - I'm going to look closely at that exact combo.

I bought my naked portafilter from Terry at espressoparts.com, here is the Silvia Bottomless. I would advise to call though, they seem to have issues with email and web ordering. . .

I've owned the pair for 6 years and have only had to replace a thermostat. The grinder is due for a cleaning but haven't found the pdf I use to have on taking the Rocky apart. Pretty good combo, nice portafilter, good over flow container. Would consider it again if I was looking in that price range. I'd like to move up a step in a couple of years.

Wow, that is an informative site. One can spend all morning trying to get a "perfect" espresso shot. Sometimes, I'll have to settle for less than perfect, but I try to do the best I can considering what kind of beans I am using. I'll go for a perfect 20 count coming out of both spouts and I am happy, if it goes to one side or another, too slow-fast, or no crema, then I'll fuss around. I want to pick up that new tamp and naked portfilter.

Thanks for introducing me to those.

Whoa whodat1, I want to come to your house. Very impressive. I feel inadequate with just my Fresh Roast Plus and grinder.

A 60x micrograph of espresso grind next to table salt crystals - image capture with an Intel Play QX3 (great toy).
I neve did figure out if the grind was "even".

Thumbs up Re: (Coffee) Pic of the Day

I went out and purchased a Krups moka brew last week. This morning I fired up a mix of 2/3 KB African Assasin and 1/3 Electric Chair espresso just to finish up some coffee I had kicking around. I was amazed at the foam or crema? that poured forth from this brew. It was very tasty...

Re: (Coffee) Pic of the Day

Cool $14.95 scale at Target - plastic - compact - accurate - 6.5-lb capacity - graduated ring at bottom rotates to allow for tare, metric or pounds. Can be used with or without the included plastic pouring bowl. The scale is not quite flimsy. Great for weighing beans, etc - pretty decent readings about down to the ounce if you have perfect eyesight.

Who IS this little guy? Why is he floating on coffee steam and, more important, why does he have four bundles of of cigars in left hand?
