I've always been a drip coffee guy (I have a Zojirushi Thermal machine that I love - one of the best machines for the money out there) and got into roasting within the last 9 months or so. I've loved espresso for a LONG time, and had a cheap Mr. Coffee. Mr. Coffee wasn't getting it done so I made a switch to an 'entry level' REAL machine. The Evolution got here a month or two ago and I'm learning how to make REAL espresso. I'm already thinking upgrade to my grinder (1st) and my machine (2nd), but we'll see how the wife takes that! I ended up buying the Espro tamper (it 'clicks' at 30 lbs of pressure) to help aid me in my journey. It is an amazing tool and I'd highly recommend it to anyone starting off (I noticed your Reg Barber btw, NICE!). Anyhoo, I LOVE coffee and posting pics and stories (I know, I'm a dork). I'll keep it up. Keep in mind, I'm just learning, but it's fun and I want to share for advice and comments. |

Those were the gooiest, drooliest, richest looking crema photos I've ever seen. Which camera, by the way? It was Monkey Blend that got me going. My own blends are different - more complicatexd to roast - but not sure they're vastly better. I haven't had any MB in years - might order a pound and revisit that which inspired me. The Reg (a gift) is good enuff but overpriced. FWIW I found near equal quality and weight (plastic handle/stainless body) at a grocery store the other day for $14.99. Sent one to a pal in Nashville TN for field trials - no verdict yet.

Mr. Maduroo,
The camera is a Sony DSC-P93A, it takes decent pictures, but the macro is less than desireable. My father in-law has a Sony DSC-P200 and it takes AMAZING photos and the time in between shots is almost nil. It's time you post some pics, no? ![]() |

http://www.espro.ca/ As for the portafilter, it's just a regular portafilter with the bottom cut out. It REALLY helps figure out what is right/wrong with a shot. I have a regular too. http://malachi.coffeed.com/naked-diagnosis.html Few more shots, I gotta get the damn camera to focus! ![]() ![]() ![]() |
