Help with Java Monsooned Arabica

So I have roasted Java Monsooned Arabica 3 times...

1- 1/2lb Fire before First Crack

2- 1/2lb lower temp profile, fire before FC

3- 1/4lb lower temp profile, lot's of smoke before FC but pused through to first snaps of SC.

I have been e-mailing Sweet Maria's about this, since I have been bothering Joe Behm so much with other issues, and they had never tried a monsooned bean in the Behmor.

Any one have any ideas?

Re: Help with Java Monsooned Arabica

I tried roasting a 1/4lb again yesterday, ton of smoke well before FC, took it to a few snaps into SC, no fire. The beans are a mix of City to Emanate fire.

Have you tried the smaller grid drum?

That drum will allow less chaff to fall thru (the usual match to the fire), and might also have some subtle affects on the heat characteristics.

(what program are you using ie: 8oz@1ibP4++)

Not much chaff at all with monsooned beans, It was the beans catching fire

You got a roaster that sets beans on fire? Was that to match a mokapot that doesn't make crema?

Hmm - in that case I would plug your vacuum cleaner into the same circuit, and every time the Behmor shows max wattage on the kill-o-watt meter, turn on the vacuum. This should cut your amperage enough to lower the bean temp's below the ignition range... lol

I have done this on the P5 and the beans are just weird, before monsoon season they through them in a shack and let them soak up the humidity of the monsoons. Have no problem with this bean when in espresso mixes.

I have been bothering Joe Behm with my smoke issues and my basic killing of his machine, his advice was to let the damn thing rest. I feel if I go to him with the fact that I have had 4 or more fires he will give up on me and never honor the warrenty .

I also have a baby that won't cry, she just sits there smiling and looking smug, like she is better than me .
