My Cooler Used To Suck

Now it blows.

Don't know why it never ocurred to me to reverse the air flow on my mini-shopvac coffee cooler until now. It always sucked the cool air thru the beans and, along with loose chaff, down into the barrel and into the vac.

Last night I reversed the flow and let it blow up thru the beans. This version seems to remove chaff a little better and is certainly easier on my sensitive little shopvac.

Aside: new deadly sins include, but are not limited to: obscene wealth, causing poverty, polluting, hedonism, drug abuse, permitting social injustice and genetic manipulation. If Morgan Freeman makes a new movie called "14" I could not bear it. "Seven" was hard enough.

Do we need a little Sumatran Therapy? Easy Dan......

Fellas, I might need a little help talking him off the ledge... Someone fetch me a double espresso with heavy crema... I can coax him down with that, I think...

I think if I reversed the flow on my vac cooling unit, I might spray beans all over the garage, but it might be a fun experiment once I feel like the temperature would be conducive to picking them all up.

I discovered this too a couple months ago. I generally use a couple of small sieves to hold the beans, place one on top of the other to make a dome, with about 1/4" gap between to two to let chaff fly out. Beans are room temp within about 30 seconds this way. Re-reverse the shop-vac to clean up the chaff mess.

I have the pocket-sized shopvac from Lowes - about as big as a basketball. It starts making hateful noises after it draws heat for too long so I figured it was time to try something else (blowing). Mine lacks the power to launch beans during a cooling cycle but, having experimented on chaff-puffing with the nozzle last night I discovered it doesn't take too much puff to send beans flying.

Re: My Cooler Used To Suck

I got myself a little Dewalt shop-vac that also will run on Dewalt batteries. I have always used this little sucker for light clean up on a job site but I myself was never a Dewalt tool guy. Well after retiring to raise my girl and I started roasting I couldn't find a mini shop vac I thought was worth it so I splurged on the dewalt and a couple of bateries. The great thing is the intake is opposite of the exhaust so I can blow air while I suck chaff , pretty nifty. I like being able to go to the car and suck up dirt with no darn cord to get in the way, but if need be just plug the sucker in.

So, you're saying that you mostly suck but could go either way? Please don't encourage quibbling. "Do you suck or blow?" is a yes or no question.

I long suspected you sucked but it is not for me to judge how you cool your coffee beans OR clean your car. Whatever.

I used to suck but quit.

You sure you don't need more time to rest? It is all there in black and white, able to blow while sucking. Wonder how many hits this thread is going to get on google?
