Musings of a coffee moron

OK, so I have managed a few grand victories in my short coffee roasting career. The first and certainly most dumbfounding is that I have permission* to roast at will INDOORS with no wife complaints! Secondly, I have weaned myself off of French Vanilla creamer. The unflavored kind is way better! I have turned into a full blown coffee snob. I have developed a LOVE for the acrid smell of roasting beans. I find that most of the time I use 1 roast setting on my iRoar. I tend to roast into second crack. Any crack is good but the second type is better AFAIK. What's your favorite crack? Why is most commercial coffee burned? I can tell the difference between shite beans and Sweet Maria's offerings. What is happening to me? I just placed another order for greenies. May your cups be full of stimulant. Roast on!

Grats on the great indoors. I don't care for the odor of the roasting to live in it. Garage for me. Depending on the bean, I roast to between first and second to just as second crack starts. I haven't found anything I love that goes into a full rolling second crack. Roast on!

That's an easy one...
(Bartender to the horse,)
"So, why the long face?"

The burned coffee taste cuts thru the milk in a typical 12-oz latte juiced with with hazelnut syrup.

I like my espresso roasts medium to dark; the moka, press and vacpot mostly belch out coffee from beans that rarely or barely touch a second crack.

Tastes change. There are a lot of beans to 'speriment with.

I forgot to mention that I still have no idea what I'm doing. I just order random beans and roast em! It rules.

I'm pretty much the same. Just placed my first order since buying the sampler and went with this:

Brazil Coromandel -Fazenda Sao Joao -1 lb
Costa Rica Dota Conquistador -2 lbs
Sumatra Lintong Nihuta KVW Decaf -1 lb

Re: Musings of a coffee moron

There is something to be said for picking a region (or continent) and working thru a range of selections for a few months to get well acquainted then moving on to another, etc.

If that feels too much like being fenced in it is also true that throwing practically any beans into practically any roaster for practically any roast profile will produce something fresh (and almost certainly better) than anything you've ever bought at a grocery store.

Seven of one, almost a half-dozen of the other. You win both ways.

Ah the first orders, those sweet days, now I get 20-40lbs at a time.

If you like 2nd crack than look over Tom's reviews at sweet Maria's and look at what he likes to take to FC+.

Is there an easy way to do this or is it more manual looking at all the reviews and looking for FC+?

No, there is no FC+ search. You could go to CBC and use their coffee matrix, I'd rather read all of Tom's reviews.
