Does it ever spurt outta the north bowl when you're brewing or does it all stay put?

eruption brewing??

[SIZE="4"]Monsieur Mou ! You are looking quite dapper these days !

If you are experiencing geologic processes in you brewing methods, I suspect that you are starting with very warm water in the bottom, or are allowing the bottom to "come up to temperature" before placing the top bowl in place. I usually start with water from a kettle that is off boil (as one would use for a French Press), then immediately seal the top bowl in place. The alcohol lamp takes the temperature up slow enough that the process is smooth. The glass filter will ring and jiggle, but rarely erupts. If you are using a Vac Pot that is smaller than the Cona, try using cooler water.

Good Luck

New house, new stove - frequent tectonic-type coffee burps. Will try slower/cooler start. Merci.

Re: Your favorite brewing method

I like all extraction methods other than percolation (yuck!). My order of preference is espresso > French press > pour-over > drip. I haven't messed with a moka pot very much yet so I'll see where that falls in.

Re: Your favorite brewing method

Espresso, then French press, then drip, then mokapot. This is standard for me. I take the time for espresso. I use drip when i am lazy. i select the press when i am after the nuances of my beans. The mokapot has never grabbed me.

Re: Your favorite brewing method

I recently got a Technovorm after reading an article in "The Atlantic Monthly" that claimed it was the best by far. Apparently, it heats the water to a much higher temp than other machines, which extracts more oils etc. While it is decidedly low-tech for the premium price, we haven't been disappointed.

Whoot! You da man! Another Technovorm convert. That's on my list. You know, the one the wife doesn't know about.

I got really tired of keeping up with the process of FP, I'm more than satisfied with the OCS drip coffee.
