Quick assistance reassembling my mazzer mini

Just got my mazzer mini in the post today, first thing I did was take it apart to clean it up.

Upon reassembling, I made extra sure to not cross thread the collar, now my question is, how tight to I turn it? I get to the 1 on the collar and she won't budge any further. 0 is supposed to be the finest setting correct? Or is 1 the finest setting and 0 is the coarsest?

Re: Quick assistance reassembling my mazzer mini

Think i figured it out. I turned it on and slowly tighten the setting, the burrs will touch if it goes down to 1, i assume that's the slight grinding noise I heard!

Now my question is, if I wanted to use this for press and espresso, do you think I will ever go above 6 or 7? Right now the screw that stops the collar from turning is sitting around there, which means I won't be able to go coarser unless I move it. Sure is a nice quiet grinder.

Re: Quick assistance reassembling my mazzer mini

I HAVE HEARD the absolute number setting isn't meaningful from one machine to the next; at some variance with other machines mine grinds turkish at 2.5, espresso around 2.8 to 3.2, moka around 4, Aeropress at 4.5 and press or vacpot from 5.5 to 6.0.

Smaller numbers are finer settings. I don't think it matters if the burrs begin to touch at 0 or 1 or 2, as long as YOU know where they bottom out and know not to overtighten the grind-setting collar during use.

My first set of burrs is about shot and I am finally ready to learn this stuff myself. For real answers, or until I open mine up for the seond time in six years, call Espresso Parts and ask.
