Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I don't have the time or patience to roast, grind and brew - or even any of the above, but I love a good cup of coffee(and yes i consider Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or Krispy Kreme good coffe). I think what I like best is a freshly brewed mug vs. the fresh grind or fresh roast coffee(although I do like these, it is just too much work for me to do at home regularly).

What is everyone's thoughts about a system such at the Keurig K-Cup systems? I like these coffees from the K-cup B2003 office brewers, but wonder if anyone has ever used one of the in-home units? Anyone have any feedback or a good site that may have reviewed one of these?

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

$.60 for a cup of coffee I have to brew. Plus I don't like the fact that the machine has standing water in a resevoir. Moisture+heat=bacteria. I don't even like drip coffee makers for the same reason, I clean the one my wife uses with vinigar every few days to try and keep it clean. I use a stainless steel stove top espresso maker, takes more time but a great stong cup everytime.

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

Try http://groups.google.com/group/alt.coffee and then "Search this group" for keywords "keurig", "nespresso" etc.. I think both machines have been discussed at length over there - favorably, to my surprise. Negatives that came up were that the pods made less than a potent cup of coffee - not that they brewed poorly. I gather that some folks have spent time hacking the pods to refill with more (or better) coffee. These are not reviews, exactly, just focused jabber.

There are lengthy (favorable) reviews of Nespresso at coffeegeek.com - didn;t see any Keurig reviews, tho.

I have pod experience limited to coffee made with stale pods (feh) and finding cups not strong enough to suit me. Your mileage may vary. Pods and pod machines are getting better - for sure.

I find the Keurig to be just a bit better than one of those coffee vending machines. It's not terrible, but it doesn't come close to even Folger's in a drip coffee maker - let alone fresh ground.

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I use the Nespresso system all day at the office (free capsules) and like it so much I bought a machine for home. Rarely do I have time to try and grind / brew etc and the Nespresso machines make a great cup in 20 seconds

The Illy pods are pretty good. A Francis Francis with Illy pods makes for a chic and easy espresso solution.

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I got the free Senseo Machine and a few packs of pods. I found the coffee was too week and not hot enough. I tossed it. It was a nice looking machine, but I did not like the coffee.

We have a pod system at work, but I am not crazy about that either. So my set up is a Black & Decker Brew & Go Mug Drip Machinw, a Krups Grinder, and a bag of Eight O'Clock Bokur Blend all at my desk. The grinder was $10, the machine I got for $7 on clearance, and the coffee goes for about $4 a bag and usually lasts me about a month with two mugs a day.

My B&D Pod Machine works great with Van Houtte Pods... The Kurigs are the top of the line when it comes to the single serve...

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I have a Senseo machine I got for cheap and I like it.

I got a couple of the pod things that let you use your own coffee in the machine. Makes a good cup with my stuff over the Senseo pods. The coffee that Senseo puts out tends to be a bit harsh.

I also have a drip for when I want more than one cup or when I am making a pot of the "good stuff" to take to work in the thermos.

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I always take the little coffee pods that the cheaper motels leave for you in their little two cup coffee makers. I take them home and save them for holidays and special occasions rather than my daily kona junk....Everyone raves about how nice my coffee tastes.....

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I too have the Senseo, but have to get one of the "user fillable" pods. I'm not really into the Senseo coffee.

I myself am a Foldgers guy, but its because it is always on sale at the grocery store. I don't have the time to be roasting my own blend.

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I tried a Keuring for the first time this past weekend. I found that it made a decent cup of coffee that compared well to the Senseo. I still prefer the variety of pods available and taste of the Senseo coffee. A few months ago, I posted a link around here for a free Senseo coffee maker. Might be worth giving that a shot and then getting a Keuring if it does not work out. My

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

You guys are killing me! It's like saying that I don't like how long it takes to cook a steak...so I just microwave it. Please, gentlemen, let's all agree on one this here. Life is too short to drink crappy coffee!

The only thing worst than "decent cup of coffee" and a great cup of coffee is the quality of the beans. The coffee is pods is already ground and is several months old and stale by time you get it...kinda like eating grey meat.

I'll stick to my whole beans, grinder and brew using the pour over method. At about 12¢ a cup for GREAT coffee I'm saving so much money I should be a millionaire in the next couple of years!

Re: Anyone else like the coffee Pod Systems?

I have the Senseo machine that i got for free a while back. It's not very good coffee (to put it lightly), but it does the trick and is really easy to use and clean. Making your own pods would be a decent way to go though, i think.

If i actually want a good cup of coffee, i find me a hot date and head to Cafe Intermezzo for some good Italian espresso.
