In the end it's all for the best. Try to get some pots, pans and other extraneous kitchen stuff (the stove, for example) out of the way to make room for correct coffee service tools.

(From Ann Arbor, MI, there appeared at my local low-rent grocery store a new bag of coffee called Espresso Royale (espressoroyale.com). Stylish bag with tasty blend, seemingly fresh, (House Blend) makes an excellent drip cup. The cowards do not stamp a roast date, however.)

My experimental blend actually tasted good! I put eqaul parts of Sumatra Classic Mandheling, Yemen Mocha and Nicaragua Matagalpa Placeras Estate Miel. Yes, there really was a method to my madness...

The Cafe Copan my s-daughter brought me back from Honduras. Pretty darn good drip. Thanks, "A". You're the greatest!

Re: Whats In Your Mill Today?

(Finally) back to espresso; trying a revised blend of the ususal suspects (Mex/Sumatra/Brazil/Nic or Guat) with a 15% monsooned malabar bonus.

Thanks for getting me back to that stuff last year, Mr. Whodat. I over-proportioned it in the past to my wifes dismay. Sneaked in only 15% this time with more dominant sumatra and brazil. It is a good (re)entry point for easing into a punchier espresso. She liked it this morning. Me too.

What do you think of the Yemen Mocha when cupped straight up? I've recently roasted my first batch of this bean slightly on the lighter side and am curious to try it darker next.

It made interesting but inadequte single origin espresso for me; it shines as press coffee. Haven't roasted any in a year - tell us what you find.

I roasted mine a little light in the pants, so that is why I started my mixing. (that was the method to my madness). It had pretty nice flavor, but it needed some support for that added kick. I read this to get me thinking:

"Their powerful wine-like acidity makes these coffees a poor base for a blend, but excellent contributors of complexity and liveliness. Some, like Kenya, contribute considerable body as well. These coffees should be used with care in blends for darker roasts; they add a sharp bite attractive to many"

I am curious to see what it will taste like if I let it roast a little longer.

I used a drip, not french press, BTW.

Thats the kick I've been on lately with my coffee. I've really got into the wine-like, floral, fruity beans. Can anyone say Yirg... LOL

Tonight I'm going to roast some more Yemen, but a little darker this time. Will post the results in a couple of days.

Re: Whats In Your Mill Today?

Espresso blend, as usual - the last bit of almost two pounds. Very smart stuff. I'll move on to Eternal Riders Guatamalan or TanzPea this weekend as the espo blend vanishes.
