Picked it up yesterday, man this thing is BIG! Figures though, I had just enough beans to pull one shot. I'm going to have to find all the pieces, and start roasting again soon. I've already discarded the finger guard in the doser, anything other necessary mods I need be aware of?

A 1" soft-bristle paint or pastry brush is good for brushing out the chute and doser. Otherwise, you'll need a new set of burrs about 500-600 pounds from now.

The hopper is quite tall; some people cut them down and re-top them with a doser lid. I like the large hopper myself and am fortunate to have high clearance over the kitchen counter. Alternatively, a plastic spice jar with the bottom cut out can fit snugly in the throat of the machine and makes a nice mini-hopper for about four shots worth of beans.

My grinder came with a nice 1" brush, so that's out of the way. Roasted up a batch of coffee earlier, I'm thinking it's not going to be resting long...

They do come with smaller hoppers now, no need to cut or replace.

My mod was to put elec. tape on the bottom of the sweeper vanes for a more complete sweep. It works fairly well..

Re: Time to upgrade

Well with just a couple days use, I can tell this thing is well worth the investment. I can't believe the difference. I've already made a couple mods to it. Biggest pet peeve I've discovered is the doser...anyone surprised? I've discovered that the funnel for my aeropress fits nicely in my portafilter basket, and I'm using that to distribute my grounds in the basket.

Just a couple more weeks, and my new espresso machine will be here too! Can't wait!!!
