Chaff Removal and Bean Cooling

A while back I posited() the question of how well a salad spinner would work for chaff removal and bean cooling.
Seems like someone else had the same idea and it works well. If you're Mr. Moo and using a BBQ roaster the load may be too large, but for anyone using a SC/TO this might be just the ticket:

Great...

Something else to add to my list of equipment to set up for roasting days.

Honestly though, I don't do much to get rid of chaff.

I like the lettuce spinner thingie idea - very novel - if the plastic doesn't melt, hot beans don't go flying and the one-minute wait can be scotched. A minute is a long time when the beans are still cooking.

Re: Chaff Removal and Bean Cooling

I plug the blower end of a shop vac into a sealed box with two holes - one for the vacuum hose and one that fits a large sieve to dump the beans into. Chaff blows away, beans cool pretty darn fast. Probably not the best for indoors, though.

It mentions that a Hottop was used and the cooling tray in the Hottop gets the beans to the low 100f area then the spinner is used to remove the chaff. I think it is a bad idea to use this for cooling, but I like it for chaff.

They do make metal salad spinners.

Manufactum Stainless Steel Salad Spinner

Link is good for photo purposes.
