My First Roast

Well I finally got my beans and popper last week. So I was able to do my fist roast on Sunday. The first pic is of the Ethiopian Organic. First crack was at about 3:30 and I ended the roast at around 6:30.

This second one is of a Sumatra. First crack was a little later than the Ethiopian, around 4:00 and I let it go until about 70.

I didn't mention second crack on these because I'm not sure if i got there or if I just didn't know what to listen for. It looks like the pics came out a lot darker than they actually were. Neither of these roasts were what I would characterize as very dark. But anyway, let me know what you think.

Re: My First Roast

They look a little black to me, but it is hard to tell from the pictures. How do they taste?

They do look a bit dark, but could be the pics like you said. Either way, as you refine your roasting skills you will continue to improve and figure out what you like best.

Should sound like a fire crackling, but not popping.

Re: My First Roast

A good analogy I heard was the different between like squashing a beetle and a lady bug.

Everything tastes great. I thought I would prefer the Sumatra but the Ethiopian has this caramel taste to it that is great. I still have some of the beans from each, so I may try taking more pictures of them. The pics looked great until my wife blow them up and cropped them. Not sure what happened there.

I think I did hear that on the Sumatra. But it seemed very quick. Thanks though, I'll keep that in mind for next time. Hopefully this Sunday.

Congarats!

Sign up on the "I roast, therefore, I am" sticky. Also, try roasting more than five beans per roast.

Ohhhhhhh. Is that why it took me 12 hours to do a half pound?
