My 2nd favorite brewer on sale - $35.99 shipped!

The price on these goes up and down some, but the Scandinavian Presto drip coffee maker is down to $35.99 at amazon, with free shipping right now.

It's only my second favorite - but my favorite (Technovorm) is $200 and I doubt most people are going to spring for that.

If you own anything with Mr. Coffee, or sunbeam, or even (with one exception) Krups on its faceplate, I would strongly urge you to get one of these. It is one of the few machines on the market, and definitely the most inexpensive, that brews at teh correct temperature for really high grade coffee.

They're pretty good looking too, and have a digital chip for those of you who commit the grave sin of preparing your coffee the night before on a timer.

This pot gets a solid 92 from me without compensating for cost, and at least a 95 when 'value' is figured in.

Thanks for the heads up. That is a really good price for a machine like that.

I threw out my Mr. Coffee years ago when I found out about presses.

I'm so glad pds gave us a dedicated coffee forum. Remember the "old" days before us coffee freaks had a place of our own?

Thanks for the heads-up! I've been debating for months on getting one, and I might actually pull the trigger at this price. I took too long the last time. Hopefully, it will last through Tuesday (payday)!

If you need any more 'nudging' to make up your mind, I've had one for the past 3 weeks now.

I truthfully didn't believe a guy at work who told me there is a world of difference between brewing at 180 degrees and 195+. Wow was I wrong.

The Mr. Coffee machine that I was using was hitting 175 (at the shower head), sometime 180. In the two tests that I did on the Presto, I've hit 200.

I'm actually thinking about ordering another one and throwing it in the closet just incase anything happens to this one. I may even buy one for all my family members so I can have it where ever I go.. Hmmmm..

Anything to the reviews at amazon about the coffee tasting metalic because of the brass filter, or like glue from the reservoir, or that it leaks all over the place?

I'm going through this as we speak. Mine worked flawlessly for about 2 weeks, and then it started leaking. It's a problem with the lid. I've got the old style carafe lid. I emailed Presto, got a reply within 24 hrs and they've shipped out the newer style free of charge. It should be here in a couple of days.

My resevoir did smell of plastic after a brewing cycle, but no taste made it to the coffee. I don't know of which brass filter they speak of unless it's inside the machine somewhere.

I bought mine at Amazon, and from the few reviews I read, the ones complaining of a plastic taste bought theirs from Costco. I'm not saying all machines bought at Costco are bad, just the ones I read reviews about.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this machine to anybody. If it comes with the old style lid, I'd request a new one immediately before it starts leaking.

Coffeegeeks must be having a problem. Here's the link to the thread showing pictures of both style lids. It's on a previous page, so just browse through them.
