I have arrived at the edge of the coffee slope. Someone give me the shove. Which should I buy to begin my slippery slide?

Silly boy. Both, of course. The two combined cost about the same as a few nice cigars. A burr grinder would be key to satisfaction with either brewer, however.

Be aware there is an AeroPress/cigar Pass (try it and pass it on) going on right now. Contact me for details.

What is the "brikka" moka pot?? What size should I buy?

A suggestion on a CHEAP burr grinder would be appreciated as well. I am going super tight budget as the pipe and cigar slopes have consumed so much.

Small mokapot, Kev. 2 or 3 cupper, max. The Brikka makes pressure with a neat little mechanical valve; a regular mokapot makes pressure by letting the coffee in the filter expand as it is wetted. In either case, water ends up being forced thru the grounds under pressure.

All reports say the Brikka works well. It may work well but I hate the idea of it - no art, no skill, no craft. Talk to that EvanS guy. He's a big Brikka sniffer.

Grinder? Capresso Infinity or Cuisinart (something or other) is the cheap way in. At two or three times the price would be a Solis Maestro or Bodum Antigua grinder. They might be better grinders but probably won't make much difference if you go for the Brikka. I think the Brikka is pretty grind-insensitive compared to the regular manual mokapot.

... good entry burrmills, from $30 to $130:

Hokey dokey?

Goodness you are an evil influence on the youth of the World ....... But of course, you are most correct.

If seeking the Moka maker, just remember, it does NOT make espresso, but another nice coffee variant. Whn picking a Moka pot, I'm a recent convert to Stainless Steel over the aluminum.

In the Bialetti line I've one of each size in the MUSA series and find they cover all needs.

I find it interesting that I am also a Brikka Sniffer....while never even having owned one. Impressive, indeed.

Re: Mokapot or Aeropress???

I like the Aeropress brew better. It's also easier and does not require a burr grinder to make a good pot.

How have you ground coffee for an A-Press? Whirley blade?

Before I had a burr grinder I used whirly for this and it worked great. I also bring it if I travel (whirly here, too - the Rocky isn't going to make it into the suitcase )

Grinding too dusty with the whirly blade makes it hard to push the coffee through the syringe (you can do this if you like to work hard for your coffee), but a couple trials and you're set for making it easily. The Aeropress is very forgiving.
