Toddy Cold Brewer

I picked up a Toddy cold brewer to give it a try. It is pretty easy to use. just load the coffee and water...let it steep overnight, and pull the plug to make an extract. Worked as directed. As for the unit itself...you could probably make something that would get the same job done out of parts bought at a dollar store.

I used Yirg for it and found the toddy removed all character from it. The citrus notes were gone. It was not a bad cup, but it was a little generic. I had added too much of the extract in order to get it up to my taste strength. It was like liquid Meth. I was totally wired.

While I am not crazy about the coffee black...it is not completely useless. I like Iced coffee with cream and sugar. It makes a good quick cup of iced coffee. So it will get some use. I probably will not waste good quality beans on it though. I will try it out with something out of the grocery store.

Re: Toddy Cold Brewer

Have owned the Toddy system. Tried an Aeropress last week. Very similar coffee from both. Toddy uses cold water and a pound of coffee and to make it's concentrated coffee. Refrigerate and keep. Add water to the concentrate and microwave to heat.

Aeropress uses hot water and gives a similar taste for up to a 20oz mug of coffee when loading it up with four shots.

With both I found the coffee to be smooth and clean tasting but missing any specific notes from the beans that I roasted. On the plus side though, it's a fine cup of coffee for first thing in the morning.
