Another Newbie Question
I have my first starter pack of green beans on the truck and I am looking forward to tormenting them on a bed of hot air as soon as I can.
I ordered espresso beans and I was wondering...is there a special bean that lends itself well to espresso or is espresso a level of roast? Or is it both?

Re: Another Newbie Question
It more has to do with the level of the roast and the grind. All beans can be used for expresso its depends on your tastes.

Re: Another Newbie Question
In general, on this day when I was able to ride for the first time this season, I agree with my riding brother with a little more explanation: Espresso, like all things coffee is a matter of personal taste. Some like to add robusto beans to their blends (in a hope to add more crema among other things), some do not. It is the same when dealing with a SO (single origin) espresso. Many consider any hint of "brightness" in an espresso to be a fault or flaw. For those who believe that it rules out a lot of beans, the usual suspects being east african beans (especially kenyan). I would suspect that a lot of espresso afficiandos find many more beans to be suitable for blending as opposed to being used as a SO.

Re: Another Newbie Question
Did you order a preblend of beans like Sweet Marias Monkey Blend? This would be a blend of beans that makes a nice espresso and, unlike many blends, can be roasted premixed and still come out tasting good. If this is what you got, roast it to an early/mid 2nd crack.
If not, what bean (or beans) did you get?

Re: Another Newbie Question
Keep in mind the level of roasting with espresso beans. Some like a real dark roasted espresso bean some do not. In Europe, espresso beans tend not to be as dark as in the US, except for a region of Italy that escapes my memory right now, I think it's S. Italy.
