How loud is a Rocky?

My Krups burr grinder (wedding shower gift) hit the crapper yesterday after grinding a pound if Costa Rican.
Need a new grinder now.
Was looking at Baratza Virtuoso or Rancilio Rocky (yeah I know big price diff)

I don't have an espresso machine. I do drip M-F, and French Press Sat-Sun/Holidays

How loud is the Rocky? How tall are both of the units?

Just curious from those that have 1 or both?

Re: How loud is a Rocky?

Mine sounds like

"Grrrrrrrrrrr....Rrrrrrrrr. .... Wrrrrrrrrr"

Not something to bother the neighbors. Wouldn't try to talk on the phone while grinding.

The Rocky fits under kitchen cabinets with several inches to spare .....

Wouldn't have another grinder then my Rock ..... no problems, hell for stout, easy to clean .....

Re: How loud is a Rocky?

Have had my Rocky about 1 year now and it's completely trouble free. AFAIK you will have to pay quite a bit more than Rocky price to get anything that resembles or beats Rocky build, quality and precision of grind.

My wife talks on the phone in the kitchen while I am grinding. No, it's not silent but it's as quiet as i could imagine anything being...given that it's grinding beans. Krups and Cuisinart grinders I have had are MUCH louder than the Rocky.

Re: How loud is a Rocky?

In the main we learn to live with what we got.

More than a Rocky is sort of a hair-splitting exercise for coffee dweebs; less than a Rocky is a long long long ways away. The noise is music and the price, over time, justifies itself for coffee lovers in longevity, versatility and output quality.

That is all.

Good day!

Re: How loud is a Rocky?

A Rocky is going to accomplish 100% of your "coffee" needs. It's actually overkill for just coffee. If you see yourself drifting more towards espresso down the road, a Rocky will handle most of your demands, falling short only because of the stepped adjustment which you may or may not have any issues with. It's a big enough jump cash wise from a Rocky to the next level up in grinders to make the Rocky the only thing you'll ever need. Making espresso is just a whole other world all together.

Re: How loud is a Rocky?

I wound up going with a Baratza Virtuoso.
Actually makes less noise than my old Krups conical burr grinder. Faster, doesn't overheat. Nice machine.

I only do drip with gold filter and French press so this is working out perfectly.

Cleanup is MUCH easier than my previous grinder as well.

Down the road if I do end up trying to do espresso I may have wished I went for a rocky, but at that point I'll just buy the combo Rocky combo anyways
