Ever had any Australian Coffee?

Well, I needed to roast some beans for tomorrow and I went digging in my stock of beans. I knew I had some Kona and some good columbian. Well, what do you know I had some Australian Moutian Estate beans I had yet to open. This had come in last fall and I had yet to open the bag, so I roasted up half a pound to just past Full City. Well if you like Kona, you will love this stuff. After they cooled I chewed up a bean. More flavor than Kona with less tannins (yea, I know kona don't have any tannins anyway). There will be a big load in my french press first thing in the morning.

Re: Ever had any Australian Coffee?

I've had it lots of times

100% Queensland beans are nice, but since the cyclone the prices are pretty high. Nice if you can fins them, though.

I favor QLD Muddies, WA Blue Swim-muhs and, of course, the diminutive Morton Bay Bug; never knew about local coffee to wash it down - it's a big world - something new every day. Must try some. How many Gurkhas/kg down there, Taz?

I only drank Cascade, Red Back and Tou-Blu down yonder. Coffee never occured to me! In fact, I never saw a pot of coffee. Everyone had beer for breakfast. Great country!!

I had some great Australian coffee that Paul(Tazziedevil) sent me, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. It was excellent though.

Re: Ever had any Australian Coffee?

Well I finally made this today. It being Saturday I used the drip machine so that others could enjoy. Knowing this is classified as a Island coffee, I made it strong, 20-25% stronger than my house blend (don't ask how much, I eyeballed it).

Anyway, here is the review: Very nice flavor, nutty taste, and very low tannins. No real susprises here except I made this one about as strong as I would make anything. I could have made it a stronger and still drank the cup black. It would make a super espresso. I don't make espresso, but you could tamp and tamp to get the holder as full as possible and it would give a nice head of crema without any bitterness (Iwould try roasting a small amount to Full City Plus, almost to french for the espresso machine). I do love espresso without sugar and this coffee would be a great canidate. I look forward to getting some in my french press as this is about as close to espresso as I can get at home. If you are a cream guy I would go easy here unlesss you make the cup really really strong. I have not tried it yet but I suspect this coffee would be quite good with a bit of irish whisky to provide a bit of a kick.

Re: Ever had any Australian Coffee?

Tried this morning with a pinch of French Chicory again in the drip machine. It was out of this world.
