Re: Coffee Newbie

Bodum French Presses are pretty much the standard and be purchased in a variety of sizes and materials either on-line or in any major chain stores (Cost Plus World Market, Bed & Bath, etc)

Good Luck

Re: Coffee Newbie

I would also recommend the Bodum coffee press. I bought mine at Starbucks, really inexpensive. I would also recommend half and half instead of creamer, it won't mask the flavor of the coffee like some creamers do. Just experiment, thats part of the enjoyment!

Re: Coffee Newbie

I can not think of any thing finer than a fine cup of coffee and a great cigar. If you are looking for a great supplier of coffee for not a lot of money look at the Green Mountain coffee roaster's web site. They have great selection of some of the world finest coffee. I have belonged to there coffee club for years and I have no complaints.
Also check out Black Dog Coffee on the web.

Hard to beat "Bodum" brand. Avoid "Bonjour." See more:

Geat info! Now what is the best way to heat your water and know the correct temp? Are there any pots or kettle's you can recommend that make this task easy?

Thanks

20-seconds off the boil - pour, stir, pour to top; wait four minutes. Press. Pour. Suck it down.

Re: Coffee Newbie

Now that was easy. I am going to purchase a Bodum. Now any recommendations for some pre ground beans that you could recommend? I would like a sampler pak. I like a bold coffee and my wife is quite fond of Starbucks Christmas Blend. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to getting a burr grinder later on. Too many tobacco purchases going on right now. I saw this burr grinder recommended over the Cusinart at coffeegeek. What are your thoughts and recommendation on this also.

Thanks again

i cant imagine making french press with pre-ground beans. i implore you to get a grinder and do it up right. imo, fresh ground is essential for french press - fresh oils and flavors. burr grinders are really expensive, get a cheapo grinder for making french press. you'll find yourself experimenting with different levels of grind to find one that suits you. i like my french press grinds a little coarser than what i'd get over pre-ground...

Re: Coffee Newbie

I, too, grind my own to my desired coarseness. I also roast my own bean so I know exactly what flavor profile I can expect. I know you have mentioned in the past that you weren't interested in home roasting. I do ask that you don't discount the idea out of hand. Once you learn how to roast you will never look back (or forward to big Green either). I know exactly the age of my beans and grind. Just something to keep in mind, my first roaster was an air pop popcorn popper...
