Decaffinated coffee
Ok so whats the best decaffinated coffee out there? My doc says I have to stay away from stimulants so I told him id lay off the Coke but I wasnt giving up cigars! So now that Ive cut Coke, Dr Pepper, and Starbucks outta my diet Im trying to find something to fill the void. Folders dont cut the mustard. I need something with some flavor to it.

Re: Decaffinated coffee
"Unfortunately, fine decaffeinated coffees are the exception rather than the norm. Decaffeinated beans are notoriously difficult to roast, so even the best decaffeinated beans may produce a thin-bodied, half-burned cup once they are roasted. Still, for the coffee devotee even listless decaffeinated coffee is better than mint tea, and you can always compromise and spruce up a caffeine-free coffee by adding a little full-bodied caffeinated coffee before grinding it, or by creating your own low-caffeine blend."
From Coffee Review :: The World's Leading Coffee Buying Guide Don't know others thoughts on it but my wife WILL NOT drink decaffeinated coffee. Good Luck! Shawn

Re: Decaffinated coffee
I've been there and done this,,,being a diabetic and all. First of all, there are alot of good de caf coffees out there. I love a good Kona Blend and you can order them onliine,,,,you can buy them from places like Henrys Whole Foods,,,,don't limit yourself to Starbucks or other Coffee Houses. Diet Drinks,,,,I love diet Pepsi Caffiene Free and the same goes with Diet Dr. Pepper w/o caffiene,,,,,I swear these sodas are better without the caffience in them as they "fizz" better. A&W is great too and there is no caffiene in them and the diet is great without changing the flavor profile. Experiment with different sodas,,,some are really good while some taste like diesel fuel.

Roast your own decaf; it can be exceptional.

Re: Decaffinated coffee
Hey Mr. Moo! Long time since I've been here, but I was looking through forums I used to spend time on and saw this post.
My son's girlfriend drinks decaf and I get green from Sweet Maria's. They sell decaf that uses the water decaf process and it tastes almost as good as regular home roast. Most commercial decaf uses benzine and other crap to decaffinate, but the water process doesn't seem to leave other flavors in the bean. I've gotten some good Costa Rican decaf from SM. But as Mr. Moo says...Ya' gotta roast your own!

No decaf, but I simul-roasted some Nic, Eth. Worka and Brazilian today in the MooBQ and SCCO. I feel some Ethiopian coming up for b'fast tomorrow. Recently had the pleasure of dinner and coffee w/the Napcat in Vegas.

Re: Decaffinated coffee
the coffee forum has gone flatter than pods from Target
Yeah, I noticed that the few times I checked this board. I guess the quarterly roast died and I did not see the yearly Yirg roast competition this year. I don't see many names from the old home roasters either. But I'm still plowing along with a SCCO, an iRoast and a Beamer. I did some roasts today with the iRoast & Beamer; Kenyan, Nicarauguan and Sulawesi. Sort of a three way salute to Bright, medium & dark (mud). What I was really doing was going through my stash and cleaning out pockets of older beans.
