Lavazza !Tierra!
Lavazza Tierra. What do you guys think?
I've had 2 half pound cans of this stuff so far, it is a bit expensive, but once in a while I'll treat myself. My initial thoughts were that it was an espresso coffee, judging by the grind size. LET THE FLAMES BEGIN! I used to make this (when I lived in my apartment, sans coffee machine) using a pot of boiling water, letting the cup sit for a few minutes to let the grinds settle, kind of like the Turkish way of making coffee. I also like to eat the mud at the bottom of the cup sometimes... You know you've done it too! Anyway, I love the stuff. It makes a great cup of coffee; really dark, creamy, earthy, nice consistency, but never bitter! I would love to try making espresso with it, now that I live back at home with my parents. I did a search both on Google and here, but seems not many have tried this coffee. I will say that after trying this blend from Lavazza, I was really surprised with their "Premium Drip" blend; I think it tastes like an odd kind of tea that really packs a wallop of a caffeine buzz, but was way too light in flavor and also tasted reminiscent of licorice. Not something I like in my coffee, but I do try to keep an open mind. I'm done, now it's your guys' turn to give some impressions of this coffee. I'd also love some recommendations to other coffees; I typically like Sumatran coffees, I think they make a really dark, flavorful cup. |

Re: Lavazza !Tierra!
I've seen it but never tried it. I've just gotten into much of a routine of buying green beans and roasting 1 or 2 times a week to routinely buy pre-roasted and pre-ground coffee unless I get caught short. When that happens there are several commercial coffee roasters in town where I can buy fresh roasted and then grind my own.
Flames? Nah. To each his own. I see the product advertised in Whole Latte Love catalogs as I recall. They do make it sound good. The important thing is what you think of it.

Re: Lavazza !Tierra!
lol man I feel like such a coffee newb here! I really want to try to roast my own, sounds like a fun and rewarding hobby.
I was more worried about flames coming from my poor man's coffee preparation method lol. |

I wish I could buy something in a can that tasted good to me (anymore). I've had Cafe Bustelo, Illy, LaVazza and Pilon served to me as espresso and it was pretty good but, back at the homezone, it never tastes as good. I'm swimmingly happy with my roasts for turkish, moka, espresso or drip.

Re: Lavazza !Tierra!
Drink what you like and like what you drink.
You've lost a great deal of flavor with beans that are already ground. When were they roasted? When were they ground? If the ground coffee you have is old (and you can bet it's 1-6 months old) you're not really drinking fresh coffee...stop! I saw a bag of ground Charbuck$ coffee at the store last night that had printed on the bag "best if used by October 2009! Please, I have no idea when they were roasted and can't believe that they'll be any good in October...they may have already gone South while sitting on the store shelf. Some will say that you should start roasting your own beans, let's take this one step at a time. First, get your hands on some fresh roasted beans, there are too many sources out there to list...check locally. Now, get yourself a GOOD burr grinder, you'll thank me later. Make sure you have good quality water, 98% of you cup of coffee is water and you should start out with the best you can get. You might need to filter it...Britta comes to mind. Once you've mastered the beans, grinder and water you'll need a good (not too much money) brewer. After this is finished post again with the next step in your coffee journey...it'll be roasting!
