They just had a huge promotional thinga bout this. A barista gave me a free shot of it and I have to say that it is just like the real thing. The catch?, it's instant coffee. I was quite floored, I couldn't tell the charred bean flavor from the instant charred bean flavor.

I was "gifted" several packs but I'm just not up to drinking any yet...after reading so many bad reviews. I might have my wife try them.

I've tried it a couple times. While I don't think its anywhere near as good as a fresh french press cup, its not bad. Better than any instant I've tasted, and pretty tasty, if you're in a pinch.

Like it or not, this is a brilliant move by a well run company. Internationally, instant is king.

Only time will tell if it's a "brilliant move" or not...my vote is that it won't do too well, the main reason is the price.

I wish I knew why instant coffee exists.
I am never in a situation where coffee is not already readily available or it wouldn't simply be faster to set up my coffee maker. Boiling a pot of water can take more time than setting up the machine.

Maybe I'm missing something, if it is faster than it's not by enough to justify drinking watery and bland coffee, or it's intended for camping or the like.

Having said that, the Satrbucks VIA is definitely the best instant coffee I've ever tried.

I actually really like the italian roast of the Via line, went very well with the CAO Brazilia and Italia I smoked a week ago.

For camping or early morning trips to the field I have used Nescafe Clasico. It is a Mexican instant that is stronger than most. I prefer it over nothing.

True, but it has introduced a few real connoisseurs to the more esoteric coffee concoctions. Once one tries real espresso, or latte, or macchiato, then Charbutts loses a bank withdrawl for life.



Real coffee in all its manifestations is never fast, convenient food.

I stopped by Starbucks (wife calls it "fivebucks") for the first time in probably a year on Thursday and picked up a 3 pack of the VIA, not bad for what it is. A little pricey tho'
