Strong Coffee recommendations

I'm looking for coffee with a good amount of caffeine. I'd like some caffeine in my system before I do my hour of cardio. What do you guys recommend? Preferably something I can pick up locally. Thanks.

Re: Strong Coffee recommendations

Order an Americano (espresso in hot water) from a decent coffee house. You know it is made fresh, and usually tastes much better than the drip crap they serve. Even at Starbucks, where they over-roast their coffee, it isn't bad.

I am not anti SB, but there stuff is overoasted. I definitely recommend a local shop. Mostly because they just know coffee better, really interested in taking care of the customer. SB customer service is great, I just wish I didn't have to use it, know what I mean?

Re: Strong Coffee recommendations

I'd go for some an espresso blend containing 10-20% robusta, that usually does the trick (most blends do contain robusta - but more and more blenders do Arabica all the way ..) .. and then just get whatever you fancy, but an Americano is always good with a double shot of espresso to shoot off the day ..

No, I have no problem doing an hour of cardio everyday. I think some caffeine will help when you do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

Re: Strong Coffee recommendations

I would suggest B12 rather than caffeine. Caffeine robs your body of water when you need it most. ie doing a cardio for 1 hour.

Re: Strong Coffee recommendations

I have found that coffee before a strenuos hike in the mountains results in some dehydration. now i have my coffee an hour and half before and drink water regularly on the climb. When i've had a rough week at work a good cigar gets me going but i usually end up paying the price on the climb.

really enjoy good kenyan coffee, arabica with a little robusto

cheers

Re: Strong Coffee recommendations

Espresso drinks like americanos provide less caffeine per cup than conventionally brewed coffees. A 2oz shot plus four ounces of water (an americano) has less caffeine than a 6 ounce cup of regular drip. (It tastes better though. )

The coffee-dehydrates-you claim, according to recent research, is debunked. Coffee doesn't dehydrate you. Too much caffeine might make you feel bad but X-ounces of coffee doesn't pull X+1 ounces of water from your body the scientists say.

If you want caffeine boost then buy cheap ass coffee at any grocery that does not claim "100% arabica beans" on the package. It'll probly do the job. There are some blends, particularly in college markets, that claim on the bag to be "sooper-dooper gonna keep you more alert" coffees. Like cheap ass grocerystore stuff it'll have less arabica and as much robusta as they can squeeze in. Robusta beans as a rule have more caffeine than arabica beans. Maybe they don't taste so great but, add enough cream and sugar and the stuff will, by gum, make your heart beat faster.

If you want caffeine AND you want to vibrate or levitate - make a 6 ounce cup of 100% mokapot brew and, for sure, you will have caffeine.

This said, you would be way better off to get up 10 minutes earlier and walk briskly immediately before starting a gym routine. Caffeine may bop your pulse but it won't heat up your muscles like a brisk walk.

Anyone like the Eight O'Clock Coffee? I think I read a few months ago that Consumer Reports rated it the best among 19 brands tested.

Good, cheap coffee. But 100% arabica (or it always was, anyhow). No special caffeine boost there.

Re: Strong Coffee recommendations

If you are going for just the caffeine kick to use to work out, I would personally buy a diet pill because now that ephedra isn't used, caffeine is the hardcore ingredient they use.

If you really, really want a boost and are hardcore, you could always get some Ephedrine (via a brand called Mini Thins - you can still get them but usually have to show your D License and cannot buy more than a set amount per month). Not to mention the ephedrine also has a positive metabolic effect that helps burn fat a lot quicker...and also could potentially throw your blood pressure through the roof so it is more risky.

True dat, man!!!

Use double the amount of grounds and a percolator for extra Vitamin Cafe in your brew. Or, just chew a handful of beans. Of course, either might just taste like crap .... to you!
