i love it strong, seems very smooth to my relatively undeveloped (coffee wise) palette.

just like a good cigar, nice strength, smooth all the way.

Re: Cafe Bustelo

I was smoking fat cigars and watching a fellow rolling 'em in Ybor City this time last year/Tampa SOCOM Expo; the owner was a nice old guy and he offered me Cafe Cubanos as we sat and talked about coffee, cigars and the weather. They had a nice little espresso machine in the back and they were using Bustelo - a tsp of sugar in a dbl shot sipped great. Nice with a stogie, uh huh.

I make espresso with the stuff. Pretty good if you prepare it the cuban way putting sugar in the top of a moka pot and brewing the coffee.

Forgive my ignorance, but can you explain this technique a little more. I'm not experienced with coffee, but I do have a can of bustelo sitting in my fridge. I love this stuff and would appreciate alternative ways of brewing it. thanks

Absent an actual espresso machine ($200 to play) and matching grinder ($150 to play) to find out if you like this sort of thing or not, I suggest getting Bustelo espresso grind, running it skillfully thru a mokapot ($10 to play) and mixing it 50/50 with hot milk for very excellent cafe-au-lait (my say). For example.

Re: Cafe Bustelo

Gooood stuff. I also mix it about 50-50 with regular coffee and get plenty of compliments from the coffee snobs at work...They ask where'd you get that stuff.

Thanks for the post, my mouth was actually watering while reading through it. I'm going to look for a mokapot and try this thing out. Here I go down another slope!

Very easy, inexpensive slope, the mokapot. Watch out for what comes after.

Re: Cafe Bustelo

Puro_Angler, please stop storing your coffee in the frig, you're only hurting it by drying the little oil that the gounds might still contain! Store your coffee in a cabinet.

Better yet, get yourself a grinder and buy whole beans, grind only what you plan on brewing and never more...you'll enjoy your coffee much more that way.
