sources for pure kona coffee
I've from these places a couple times. The coffee is soooo good, and you can get macadamia nuts straight from the island
Holualoa Kona Coffee Company www.konalea.com From here I would recommend the dark "Coffee Shack" roast. That's the one roasted in a drum roaster. The air roasted is good too, but not as good. It ain't cheap, $32/lb shipped, but worth it. Kona Blue Sky Coffee www.konablueskycoffee.com The Twigg-Smith Estate dark roast is the best they offer in my opinion. Just thought I would share some of my sources with my brothers. |

Re: sources for pure kona coffee
I was actually at Bluesky Kona Coffee company for a visit in December. For purchasing roasted beans, their prices can't be beat. They'll sell green beans as well for a few bucks left. Most local folks buy it here given their quality and prices. Actually, Bluesky LOSES money with their Kona coffee. It's actually subsidized by their construction firm which makes the real money for the owner...
Holualoa is a great place and I've got pics of them as well, that's the mill where I take my wet beans to be cleaned and dried...I guess I'll have to put them in my kona thread....just that they're very expensive but have really great beans...I met the owner and the manager when I was there in December. Re: sources for pure kona coffee
Nice recommendations. Howzabout share them for history in the sticky thread "Pretty Cool Coffee Links" atop the coffee forum?

Re: sources for pure kona coffee
good info!
although I often have some in the house, and I happen to be giving some away in the "Cheapy French Press Giveaway" thread, I rarely buy Kona unless I'm physically in Hawaii. I'm mainly buying it as a souvenir; it is always good enough that I always make it a point to buy some... even tho it's pretty pricey. I justify the price with the fact that it's a souvenir. when I'm back home I don't go out of my way to get it, because exemplary stuff is not easy to find... although you may have just made it a little easier... I don't know if I should thank you or not. ![]() |
