Sigh, did the unthinkable this weekend

I rose early Sunday, started the water for the press pot and got the beans ready to rock. When the water was ready I filled the press and put the kettle back on the burner to heat it back up to prime my vacuum pot. Sigh...when this was done I must have put the kettle back on the burner and forgot to close the whistle device I smelt that nasty metal burning smell at about 11:00am.

My kettle had melted to the cook-top and ruined the glass cover for the whole thing. So, no I cannot cook at all. The bonus I had set for a Silvia, is now going to a new cook-top. I still think I'm gonna wake up from a bad dream. Sigh, oh well, life had been great this past few month. Guess I just needed the old wake-up call

side note: That pot of coffee rocked!

Good thing too since it was probably the most expensive pot of java you'll ever have!

Re: Sigh, did the unthinkable this weekend

oooh that sucks.
Once I was in rental housing and left a pan of water on for like an hour.
Got back and smelled the same smell you did.

Pan was still sitting on the stove.
So naturally, I turned off the stove, and grabbed the pan to drop it in the sink.
As I did, the base of the pan fell apart to release the (now molten) insert layer which I think was aluminum.
I was wearing flipflops, but luckily the sink was on the opposite side of the kitchen, so as I turned around the liquid metal sprayed out to the side and hit the floor.
Burned some nice holes in the linoleum and the carpet near the kitchen. I forget what I had to pay but it was a lot...

Oooohhh gahhh, that is scary. 'bout lost ya feets!

I had a roommate in Portland that did that, left it on to make Rammen and passed out. I woke up with the worst taste in my mouth, and a throat ache.
I bet I die 5 years early cause of that alone!
