No Country for Old Men

I've been waiting for this movie for some time... it stars Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin. It's the newest film from the Coen brothers, and it comes out today!

Anybody see it?

I've read the book. Been a fan of McCarthy's for some years. Should be an interesting ride.

Got to see this film last night, it was outstanding, definitely one of the best films I have seen in a long time.

Good call. I've ready everything he's written, and there's not a bad book among the bunch. Blood Meridian is particularly dark, perhaps his most gruesome novel, but the latest, The Road, toes a good line between drama and tension. It's his Old Man and the Sea, and not just because of the dearth of chapter breaks.

I found the film NCFOM to be pretty close to the book, albeit with a few major differences to the story line. However, the spirit of the book and the characters is in tact, and I think that's what makes the movie work so well. Anton Chigur, though, is even more sinister in the book, as I recall it.

But there are a lot of people out there who will not like it, because of the ending. The ending was not what I expected either, but thats the Coen brothers for ya.

I think the Coen brothers make some of the best movies period.

Go see it.
Javier Bardem is so evil as Anton Chigurh you tense up when ever he's on screen.

Who is this Javier Bardem? Don't remember him in any other films.

Re: No Country for Old Men

I just like to imagine my boss is the victim in every scene where someone gets popped with the shotgun with the silencer.

In fact, beyond the shotgun with the silencer, I didn't find the movie very interesting. Rating: Probably never watch again.

Re: No Country for Old Men

I really liked the movie and hadn't read the book. The ending of the movie was a surprise, but it made me think and I couldn't imagine it ending any other way.

Javier Bardem is a Spanish actor. I haven't seen him in much but Mrs. Generate informs me that his first big role was in The Sea Inside (el mar al dentro).

Fantastic movie, and one of the Coen Brothers' finest.

Just picked up the book and now I need to buy some of McCarthy's other reads.
