Crash

I saw this last night with my girlfriend and thought it was pretty good .. although the focus was too narrow because what are the chances that the events would take place with such a small group of people in L.A. Good points made, however, and it really puts some things into perspective.

The movie reminded me a lot of Traffic, starring Don Cheadle as well, because the realism in the filming and the intense drama involved. I would recommend it if you are into that type of movie but not one that I would say it top-notch.

Re: Crash

Ok I recently watched this movie on DVD and I have to say that I was very impressed. Like DKim I compared it to movies like "Traffic" and "Magnolia". A very intense and stirring drama that constantly left me in a state of wonder and extreme interest.

Quick Rundown - The lives of many different people intertwine from various events in Los Angeles over the course of 48 hours. Each learns how the decisions of others ultimately affect their lives and the true meaning of prejudice.

IMO a most excellent movie that was never slow or sluggish in nature. The quick mini-vignettes made the movie have an almost frenetic energy. The story was constantly moving and evolving which in my mind made it all that much better.

Acting of all involved was top notch and it just reaffirms my faith in Don Cheadle's excellent acting ability. We've seen him flex his acting muscles in great movies such as "Traffic" "Boogie Nights" "The United States of Leland" "Hotel Rwanda" etc. He's really becoming one of my favorite understated actor.

See the movie, its good!

I really liked this movie a lot. The comparison to Magnolia is right on. LasciviousXXX, I have to agree with you about Don Cheadle, he is an excellent actor.

Good movie. Made me feel sorry (for once) for people in LA. This multicultural thing still works in Houston because people are sociable and not close minded and dickheaded about stuff (like Iran guy in Crash). If everyone was an asshole to everyone else, the multicultural thing could be a problem .

Re: Crash

From my view point as a black male it was dead on in many respects, but one in particular that hit home was that there are reasons why we have stereotypes of people. No matter what the group, there are those-that minute few- who continue to perpetuate the stereotype.

Ex. When Ludacris is maiking the statement to Larent Tate about how Sandra Bullock got closer to her husband when she saw them- the reaction that I've gotten at times when walking down the street in khakis, a nice polo, and well groomed hair. He goes into how she wasn't that cold until she saw to black youths and the way they were dressed. To paraphrase, "what she think we have guns?" Larentz Tate comes back, "probably cause we do." Then they car-jack them.

as I saw this part and was agreeing with them in their statements, it blew me away that they would invalidate their position by living up to that stereotype. Very good stuff from start to finish. I think this is a movie that should be shown any any cultural relations course.

Grinch OUT!!!
