Re: Serenity

Just a little point of order. I rented the movie because I felt it was good enough to see again. I was is the mood for a little TV so I watch parts of the "bonus extras". In 1 part the director Joss Whedlan stated that they were in uncharted territory because they were the first canceled series to be resurrected into a major motion picture. At another point in these extras someone else said the same thing. It's fine that the show was resurrected and that the fans still care. These comments were made at a fan convention for this genre of program and movie. I don't believe there would be any fan conventions if not for the real first series cancel by the networks and resurrected by the fans. People must learn to respect their roots.

Re: Serenity

I found it interesting that the soundtract was, as near as I could tell, all acoustic. Gave an earthy sense of balance to the movie.

Re: Serenity

I'm with you guys.

Loved the libertarian bent to the whole FireFly series and movie also. For instance, Mal once said (to paraphrase) "That's what governments do. [get in the way]". And the quote from River when talking about "civilization" about "we [government] meddle".

I'm also a HUGE fan of Battlestar Galactica. They really did a great job focusing on character development, interpersonal relationships and sharp dialog. Even down to little social details like the tension between pilots and the deck crews that have to fix the ships. Can't wait to see the next season!

Re: Serenity

The movie tends to show the frontier feel of space and the "anything goes" feel of the time in which they lived. If anyone has read history of areas like Kansas, Missouri, or California; much of what is happening out in Firefly/Serenity had happened during those times. It's interesting to see the impact of the civil war that happened between the independents and the alliance accurately reflected in the sentiment of the confederates and the union. Whedon did his homework on this series and I think the spirit of the meddling "do-gooder" alliance with their unintended consequences and the desire of the independents to chart their own course is an accurate reflection of our own nation's history. A great show that should have been around much longer than it's initial run.

Re: Serenity

I loved this movie when I saw it in theaters, and I'm thinking I'll probably rent it and watch it again tonight. If blockbuster has it pre-viewed for a decent price, I may even buy it..

Re: Serenity

I read in a Sci-fi mag that Joss Whedon is planning on bringing back the Firefly series if one of the networks will pick it up.

Hopefully the Sci-Fi channel will order it.

I heard the same thing. If there was a dance or prayer I could do to make FireFly come back I would in a heartbeat.

Serenity was outstanding in everyway!!!! But If you couldn't tell I am a huge FF fan.

The only thing that would suck though is not having the pilot.

He was cool, sucks he's no longer with us

It's science fiction. That means anything is possible. The spirit of the show would be violated if they just brought him back to life but the new episodes could take place before the movie. Or they could explain why he really wasn't killed. Or...................

Can anyone say "StarTrek"? They didn't make it past their first season, either, but fan support compelled NBC to pick it up again.

Never say never...
