Well, it wasn't what I expected, which isn't exactly a bad thing.

I expected violence (it's war), and lots of foul language (they're soldiers), but everything seemed way over the top to me! Maybe that's how it really is, but some of the scenes were not necessary -- once you see it you'll know what I mean.

It was incredibly funny and thrilling however. Long as hell, and it ended kind of quickly.

The acting was superb, including Jamie Foxx. The parts couldn't have been done better by real life soldiers.

I would see it again for sure, I give it a solid 8.5/10

I, too, have been wanting to see this movie. So bad in fact, I'm considering paying the outrageous movie prices to see it in the theater instead of waiting for video. Thanks for the review.

i saw this movie yesterday and loved it. A bit over the top at a point or two, but it all added to the drama. one of the best movies i have seen in theatre in a while. With the current iraqi situation i'd say this is a must see.

Great review, I loved this movie, I will buy it after it comes out on DVD... Oddly enough, I'm still thinking of joining the Marines... but definitely not till after college...

I, too, want to see it, but being the die hard capitalist that I am, I don't want my money going someplace I feel doesn't deserve it. From what I've heard, it dehumanizes Marines and paints the typical Hollywood picture of anyone with a pair. As a guy that can't get into the Marines or Army and has a couple of very good friends in the Marines, I say F them....I'll go watch the Little Mermaid (at least until I can steal a copy off the internet so I can see what its about without financing the impotent left wing conspiracy).

I'm probably not going to see this unless I hear something that really compells me to go. I got suckered into seeing both Donny Darko and The Day After Tomorrow with Jake Gyllenhall and I'm still pissed. Those movies sucked and I think he needs to apologize before I see another one with him in it.

I saw Jarhead with a buddy of mine last night. We had completely different views on it. He almost went to the Citadel several years ago, and he has several relatives that are or were Marines. I am from a non-military family, but I have several friends who are or were Marines. I saw it as a bit depressing, but eye opening account about what it is like to be a Marine, he saw it as an insult to Marines. Just my 2 cents...

can you be more specific on why your friend felt that way?
