Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I didn't expect much from this movie because I kept the original on a pedestal, but this movie was very well-made.

I was surprised to see that it was very similar to the original in many scenes, which was cool. Like your typical Tim Burton film, it was dark, mysterious and a bit weird, but then again, that's how Willy Wonka and his factory are supposed to be. I haven't read the book in ages, but I liked the turn of events at the end. I recommend it.

Not a bad movie. I did not think that I would enjoy it, but I did.

Re: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

here is a question... is this a movie based on Charlie now running the factory after willy wonka left it for him? or is it just a modern version of the old one? I dont think i would like it if it was the latter.

Its a modern version of the old one and is based more on the book.

It was a good movie. But there is nothing like Gene Wilder in the original one.

I couldn't agree more. The first one was only losely based on the book but after taking so long to do a remake I can't help but favor the original.

Gene did kick ass as Willy.

Re: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

But when the old one ended, charlie was in charge of the factory...Why dont they make a new movie based on that? I think that would be pretty cool.. I hate remakes!

It followed the book better than the Gene Wilder movie, but nothing beats the original. The oompa loompa (sp?) scenes weren't even very good.

Gene Wilder was the freaking man... I drove to and from Naples, FL to Skagway, AK many times when I was younger.. I had 2 movies.. Willy Wonka, and Fox and the Hound... I had Willy Wonka memorized line for line.. I can still repeat most of the good stuff, and that was a good 10-11 years ago! .. the new one was decent, but still a bit of a let down, after having such high expectations... Johnny Depp is crazy!

Re: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The original was alot better imho. This one was okay but looking at Johnny Depp and the way they had him made up along with his mannerisms got Michael Jackson stuck in my mind and that screwed up the whole movie for me.
