I'm going to do the same. I have four kids plus the wife and I.....so it has to be a very good movie for us to spend that kind of money to see it at the theater.

Re: King Kong - The Movie

Saw the movie last night. It was a good half hour too long and I didn't care for Jack Black in this one...kept waiting for him to go into some kind of comedy routine....would have liked to seen some of the trip to New York.....the effects were awesome though, some of, if not the best I've seen!!...the water, reptile, creatures, and how they consumed some of the crew might scare the hell out some kids......unless you have an 8' projection TV, you should see this at the theater to really appreciate the effects

on a 1-5. I'll give it 3.5

Re: King Kong - The Movie

Just saw it today. Should have cut out about 45 minutes of drek from the first 1.5 hours, kept the entire hour spent on the island as that was the COOLEST part of the movie, and then trimmed about 10 minutes from the last half hour, then it would have been a much better paced movie. Also, Naomi Watts did a fine job, but Adrien Brody and Jack Black were kind of blah.

Thumbs down Re: King Kong - The Movie

I saw the flick last night, and I have sort of mixed feelings about it.

Entertaining? Most definitely. A 'good' movie? Not sure yet.

PROS:
- Amazing graphics and special effects. Jawdropping.
- I felt consumed by the environment. The natives scared the crap out of me, and I am a grown ass man. The larger-than-life bugs freaked me out, and I do not have a fear of bugs.
- The action kept me on edge. Fights between Kong and other animals were great.

CONS:
- TOO LONG. 30 minutes of repetitive flying and shooting while Kong was on top of the building? Easily could have been done in 5 minutes. And conversely, if you are going to keep us in the theater for 3+ hours, how about a minute or two covering the trip from the island to NYC? If you blinked your eyes you missed it. Kong went from being tied down on the island to a broadway stage in seconds.
- The only good acting IMO was done by Naomi Watts (Ann Darrow). The others:
- High cheese factor
- Numerous other nit-picky things, one being sheer physics.

You may want to take my review with a grain of salt as this is the first rendition of King Kong I have ever seen. I also had high expectations going into it from a friend of mine who saw it before I did, so maybe that is why I have a negative view of it.

Overall, I just felt let down and not impressed. I would say 6/10.

To me, that's a mistake. The first thing I thought when I left the theater was that I pitty anyone waiting for it on DVD. There's no way this movie will be as enjoyable if you don't get to see it in the theater. The audio and visual experience is amazing!

Now, beyond that, I'd give it three out of four stars. Solid entertainment.

Thumbs up Re: King Kong - The Movie

just saw it w/ my 5 yr old son - who also loves the first king kong.

first, i'll state that i don't give 2 sh*ts about "graphics". i like a story line with some feeling.
the first half of the movie builds up the characters, the last half is mostly kong romping through the jungle, whoopin azz, while they try to save her and kong tries to save her...

could it have been shorter? for sure.

the only drawbacks i can think of are
- some scenes are just too long when they could've been shorter (i know they're trying to establish the relationship between kong and the girl - but c'mon, there's only so much teary eyed staring i can take)
- the teary eyed staring with absolutely zero dialogue.

that's it. i thought it was a great movie. the big azz bugs were creepy. and since i'm a classic horror movie fan (obvious by my avatar and username), i'm glad they kept to the original as close as iv'e seen any remake of an old movie (minus the trek from the island to NY - and the journey across the water on a raft in the original when they get attacked by some water dinosaur).

Re: King Kong - The Movie

About 25 minutes too long. The last scene where Kong is on top of the building getting peppered with bullets was drug out far too long.

Overall it was a very entertaining movie. I'd give it 7.5 out of 10.
